Abstract: A method of connecting tubulars involves the use of a top drive unit (104) and reforming the connection. In use, tubulars (101) and (102) are aligned and connected using a bonding or welding apparatus (106) which distorts the outer diameter (103A) or inner diameter (103B) of the connection (103). An outer diameter broach (111) is then passed over the connection (103) and reforms any deformities produced by the connection procedure. An inner diameter cone shaped broach (110) is used to reform the inner diameter (103B) of the connection (103).

Abstract: The present invention relates methods and apparatus for lining a wellbore. In one aspect, a drilling assembly having an earth removal member and a wellbore lining conduit is manipulated to advance into the earth. The drilling assembly includes a first fluid flow path and a second fluid flow path. Fluid is flowed through the first fluid flow path, and at least a portion of which may return through the second fluid flow path. In one embodiment, the drilling assembly is provided with a third fluid flow path. After drilling has been completed, wellbore lining conduit may be cemented in the wellbore.

Abstract: The inventions relates to an apparatus for connecting a control line to a tubular string. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a guide boom pivotable around a location adjacent the string and with a guide member at an end thereof to guide the control line. The apparatus further includes a clamp boom that is independently pivotable and includes a clamp housing at an end thereof for clamping the control line against the tubular string. The guide boom and the clamp boom each have a center line which is substantially aligned with the center line of the tubing string permitting the control line to be aligned adjacent the tubular string prior to clamping.

Abstract: A protection tool is provided to protect a control line in a safe area while one or more slips of a spider are being closed. In another embodiment, a safety interlock system is provided to prevent the closing of the slips before the control line is pulled away from the tubular string. In yet another embodiment, a safety interlock system includes a safety interlock trigger adapted to be actuated by a protection tool. The safety interlock trigger is adapted to detect the physical presence of the protection tool, and thereafter send a signal to the interlock system to enable an operator or a control mechanism to safely close the slips.

Abstract: An expandable profiled casing 910 having an earth removal member 950 at its lower end, is partially expanded by a setting tool 1200 so that gripping members 920 on legs 935 hang the casing on the wellbore 930, leaving fluid bypass areas 940 to allow for cementing operations. Following further drilling, an expander tool 1100 is located adjacent the profiled portion of the casing and expands the casing around its circumference, closing the fluid path. The remainder of the casing is then expanded.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for forming a substantially monobore well while drilling with casing are provided. A cased well is formed by lowering a first tubular casing string 610 having an earth removal cutting structure 615 operatively attached to its lower end into a formation to form a first wellbore and is cemented in place. An expandable cutting structure 705 on a second tubular casing string 710 is passed through the first tubular 610 in a retracted position and used to drill through the drillable material of the first cutting structure 615 prior to being extended and used to form a portion of the well bore. An expander tool (400, figure 14) is then used to expand the second tubular 710 so that it has an inner diameter at least as large as a smallest inner diameter portion of the first tubular 610. Also disclosed are lined lateral well bores and partial expansion of a casing to leave a fluid path around the casing, prior to final expansion to seal the casing within a wellbore or casing.
