Abstract:
An externally powered, self cleaning strainer incorporating a projectile shield, which is capable of operating for an extended period of time. A suitably shaped, motor, driven, impeller creates a localized, radially outward flow of fluid in the vicinity of the strainer inlet. The projectile shield has a lower surface shaped to deflect fluid to the strainer at a constant velocity, enabling the impeller to eject debris more efficiently. Maintaining a constant flow through the strainer also avoids additional head loss associated with accelerating flow. The self cleaning strainer may also include a brush attached diametrically opposite to the impeller to aid in removing debris from the inlet side of the strainer. The impeller may also be shaped so that when it is swept past the inlet side of the strainer, it causes a localized, reverse flow through the strainer, thereby removing debris particles from within the strainer.
Abstract:
An air filter and corresponding filter element for use in an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The filter element has a seal bead made of an elastomeric material that forms the frame of the filter element. A pleat block, made of a filter media, is molded into the seal bead in a first area of the filter element and a baffle is located in a second area of the filter element to protect the pleat block from wetting. A channel is formed in one side of the seal bead which allows the filter element to be retained during assembly without the use of fasteners and a surface is formed opposite the seal bead that in conjunction with the channel seals the filter element within the air filter when the air filter is fully assembled. The air filter has an intake silencing chamber that is located to receive outside air before it is provided to the pleat block and a sealed flow path is created from the intake silencing chamber to the pleast block by a third area of the filter element.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge (10) for particle contaminated gasses includes a pleated cylinder (12) of high efficiency filter media surrounded by interior and exterior support cages (16, 18) and having a sealed end cap (20) and an annular flow cap (24). The pleated configuration and support cages provide support which allows the high efficiency filter media to undergo reverse flow (i.e. radially outward) to clean the media. A system (34) using such cartridges includes shut off valves (40) in an entrance conduit (36) and cleaning gas nozzles (72) to provide the reverse flow for cleaning the filters. A perforated baffle plate (94) reduces the velocity of the contaminated gas to allow large particles to become un-entrained, and provides an even gas distribution for even particulate build-up upon the filters (10).
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a pleated filter media (12) extending in an axial direction (x), a transverse direction (y) that is perpendicular to the axial direction (x), and a lateral direction (z) that is perpendicular to the axial direction (x) and perpendicular to the transverse direction (y), the pleated filter media (12) comprising: a plurality of pleats (24) comprised of pleat segments (26) extending in the axial direction (x) between first and second axial ends (28a, 28b) and extending in the transverse direction (y) between first and second sets of pleat tips (30a, 30b) which are at least partially defined by first and second sets of bend lines (22a, 22b); wherein axial flow channels (32) are defined between the pleat segments (26) in the lateral direction (z); wherein the plurality of pleats (24) has a width in the transverse direction (y) that varies along the axial direction (x) at least along a portion of the plurality of pleats; and wherein the portion of the plurality of pleats comprises at least a first linear portion (34a) extending at an angle to the axial direction (x) and a second linear portion (37b) extending at an angle to the axial direction (x).
Abstract:
According to the present disclosure, air cleaner assemblies, components, features and methods are described. A filter cartridge is characterized, that can be conveniently used as part of the system ensuring that a proper cartridge is installed in the housing, in a proper radial orientation and in a manner such that cartridge rotation is inhibited, in spite of the use of a radial seal. The cartridge can be configured to also be used with a housing that includes a utility conduit in an exterior surface thereof. Advantageous features and methods of assembly and use are described.
Abstract:
A fluid filter includes a filter element having a filtering media disposed between two endplates. One endplate includes an open flow passage that allows a working fluid to flow into or out of the media during operation. The other endplate includes a connection structure. A cover houses the filter element, and has an opening that is an inlet or outlet in fluid communication with the opening of the one endplate. The cover includes another fill opening proximate the other endplate. A cap is connected to the connection structure of the other endplate to close the opening of the cover. The cover is retained between the cap and other endplate. Generally, the attachment configuration between the cap and the other endplate of the filter element helps ensure that the filter element with the correct micron rating is installed in a filtration system.
Abstract:
Well casing assembly for use in oil and gas wells, and especially deviated or horizontal wells, has an inner pipe member with threaded ends which permit a number of casing assemblies to be joined in a string. The inner pipe has a series of perforations along a segment of its length which are covered by an elongated screen member which prevents the passage of sand particles. A concentric outer protective cover member is devoid of perforations in regions which are radially opposite the inner screen to prevent damage to the screen. One or more perforated segments of the outer member are axially spaced from the screen member so that inward flow from a formation will have its energy and velocity reduced before it reaches the screen, thereby minimizing erosion of the screen surface. If desired, perforated flow control devices such as annular rings can be located between the inner pipe and outer member at the ends of the screen segment to allow a more uniform flow to the screen, and thus further reduce erosion.
