    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxide cathode with a new structure having almost no reduction of electron emission within the used period of a color picture tube even if it has high current density exceeding 1 ampere/square cm, although it has an activation time and an operating temperature equivalent to those in a conventional oxide cathode, and a color picture tube loaded with it. SOLUTION: This cathode body structure is equipped with cathode pellets 11 formed by uniformly mixing nickel powder, scandium oxide powder and emission agent powder and integrally sintering the mixture in hot isotropic pressure process, and a member of an alloy blended with at least one kind of metal selected from chromium, tantalum, molybdenum, zirconium, tungsten and cobalt and having nickel as a main ingredient is disposed in a part of the supporting member 12 of the cathode pellets 11 being in direct contact with the cathode pellets 11.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve electron emitting function by using alkaline earth metal carbonates which contain at least one of zinc(Zn) and aluminum(Al) in their crystal structure as alkaline earth metal carbonates. CONSTITUTION:In an oxide-coated type cathode, alkaline earth metal carbonates containing at least one of Zn and Al in their crystal structure are used as alkaline earth metal carbonates. Addition of Zn and Al to the cathode has an effect to improve electron emitting function in the same as addition of In and further during the preparation of the cathode, characteristic of Zn and Al as elements forming amphoteric compounds are made effective so that supposed-to-be harmful elements or their compounds contained in the alkaline earth metal carbonate are sufficiently removed. In this way, the property of the cathode is stabilized easily and the improvement of the electron emitting function of the cathode results in decreasing the working temperature of the cathode and also extending its service life.

The cap 7 is substantially made of nickel, and can have reduction means such as silicon, magnesium, manganese, aluminum, and tungsten. The cathode shaft 3 contains spiral filament 4, and the filament comprises a core 5 wound into a spiral and an electric insulation aluminum oxide layer 6. A radiative material thick layer 2 of about 70μm in thickness is provided on the cap 7. The layer 2 has a mixture of a barium oxide and strontium oxide, or a mixture of barium oxide, strontium oxide, and calcium oxide which is obtained by giving barium strontium carbonate and decomposing the same.
