Abstract: 805,035. Protective cut-out arrangements. KERAG KESSELSCHMIEDE APPARATEUND MASCHINENBAU. May 6, 1955 [May 8, 1954; April 23, 1955], No. 13227/55. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XL (a)] A protective circuit connecting the mains at terminals 30, 31 to an ozonizer (see Group XL (a)) comprising a number of glow discharge chambers each connected through an individual fuse to the terminals 22, 32, includes a hightension transformer 26, 27 and an overload relay 28, 29. If, in the event of a short-circuit in one of the discharge chambers, the corresponding fuse does not blow immediately, the relay operates and the contacts 29 disconnect the primary winding 27 of the transformer and connect the mains directly to the terminal 22 to ensure that the fuse blows and disconnects the faulty discharge chamber. The relay then drops back and re-connects the mains to the transformer to supply the other discharge chambers.

Abstract: 660,510. Separating oil from steam. KERAG KESSELSCHMIEDE APPARATE-UND MASCHINENBAU and SCHNEIDER, O. July 11,1949, No. 18316/49. Class 123(iii) A separator for removing oil from exhaust steam comprises a vessel 1 partly filled with water and provided with an exhaust steam inlet pipe 3, an oil outlet 5, and a steam outlet 6. The pipe 3 is closed at its free end and has a longitudinal slit 4, or a row of holes, along its lower side; alternatively it is formed with a number of branches 8 with downwardly facing slits or perforations 10. The outlet 5 is fitted with a condenser (not shown) to prevent escape of steam therethrough.

Abstract: 721,292. Aerating liquids. KERAG ATELIERS DE CHAUDRONNERIE D' APPAREILS ET DE MECANIQUE. Feb. 22, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1951; May 11, 1951], No. 4749/52. Class 14 (1). Apparatus for mixing gases with liquids comprises a perforate cylinder 1 rotatably mounted on a horizontal axis within a liquid container 107, the gas, fed into the cylinder through a hollow shaft 2 replacing the liquid as it is driven out through the rotating cylinder to produce an intense mixing of the gas and liquid along the circumference of the cylinder. The cylinder may be sub-divided along its length, a baffle 109 being arranged above the cylinder to recirculate the foam before collection. In order to assist the rotation of the cylinder, upon reaching a sufficiently high speed, gas, introduced either from an annular duct 32 between the shaft and a stationary hollow shaft 3 around it, Fig. 2 or from opening 14 in an end wall of the cylinder, Fig. 3, replaces the liquid which is thrown out from between the corresponding end walls of the cylinder and the container. The gas shaft 5, Fig. 3 is stationary, the cylinder being rotated by a solid shaft 2 . The cylinder, Fig. 12, is concentrically mounted within the liquid container 107 , small vent holes 122 leading into a gas discharge manifold 123 being provided to prevent the formation of gas cushions in the container. More than one cylinder may be arranged in a container and the gas may be supplied under pressure. Single and double bell and frusto-conical shaped rotating members are also shown. Specifications 455,547, 461,439 and 476,857, [Group XII], are referred to.

Abstract: 742,961. Stencilling-apparatus. KERAG KESSELSCHMIEDE APPARATE-UND MASCHINENBAU. Aug. 26, 1953, No. 23611/53. Class 100 (2). A process for the repeat printing of strips of flexible, especially textile, material comprises laying the material under constant tension and in a frictionally tight manner for at least 180 degrees around the surface of a rotatable cylinder forming a printing base and co-operating with a flat reciprocating stencil and a wiper effective in the line of contact. Material from a supply roller 3 is passed round rods 4, 5, 6 carried on a framework 28, 29, around a cylinder 2 rotatable on a shaft 1, under a rod 8 and round rollers 11, 15, carried on a linkage 13, 12, through a drying chamber 31 and to a roller 16. A spring presses the material against the cylinder adjacent the bar 6. Two side discs, one adjacent each end of the cylinder, are fast on the shaft 1, and the links 29 and rod 8 are connected thereto. The cylinder is coupled to the discs by a releasable member 30. Stencils in a raisable and lowerable magazine 26 are placed in a frame 19 reciprocable in guides 17 and connected by steel tapes to the side discs. In operation, the frame 19 is moved to and fro as many times as there are colours to be printed, changing the stencil each time. This produces a 90-degree rotation of the cylinder and discs, and corresponding pivoting of link 28 about the rod 6, and link 13 about the roller axis 15, so that the material remains under constant tension and fixed relative to the cylinder surface. When the frame is retracted to the right, the newly printed material passes opposite a heating element 27 for intermediate drying by radiation or hot air. After an area of material is completely printed, the coupling member 30 is released, and the cylinder 2 and roller 16 rotated by a sprocket drive until the coupling member engages a recess in the cylinder which is stopped in position for the next repeat, member 30 also raising the rod 6 to allow this movement. A stationary wiper 25 designed with two blades at an angle to contain the printing colour, turns slightly about its longitudinal axis on each stroke, so that each blade in turn forces the colour through the stencil.
