Abstract:
A device for metering non-free or free-flowing powders comprises mixing chamber(12) with rotary stirrer(14) and rotary meter for removing measured amounts of powder. One of these two devices is driven directly by a motor(2) and the other indirectly. The stirrer & meter are connected by power transfer means, which can be adjusted to alter the rotation rate, and which comprises a gear train having a changeable gear ratio. The device is cheap to manufacture, gives accurate metering, can be adjusted to different types of powder and can discharge different amounts of powder.

The further invention relates to a method of production of recombinant vectors, to methods of preparation of vaccines based on the vectors, to administration strategies and to methods of protecting pigs from disease.
Abstract:
An immunologically active preparation for human or veterinary use, comprising an antigenic material in combination with an MHC (major histocompatibility complex) antigen, e.g. a HLA (human lymphocyte antigen) antigen in order to increase the immunogenicity of the former.
Abstract:
A composition of a fused salt bath useful for heat treating metal parts contains silicon carbide in a melt which includes lithium ions an carbonate ions. The lithium ions prevent encrustation of the bath surface by silicate slag. Chloride ions may be included to depress the melting point. A bath, used for 2 hours at 920 DEG C to carburise steel, has the composition in parts by weight: 55 1/2 sodium carbonate, 40 potassium chloride, 4 1/2 lithium carbonate, 10 silicon carbide.
Abstract:
Photochemical electrode can decompose water when irradiated with visible light and consists of red mercuric sulphide blackened by iodide treatment as a coating on a platinum mesh. A cell for electrolysing water by the action of light comprises said photochemical electrode (1), a counter-electrode (20), both electrodes being connected by an external circuit, and an aqueous sodium nitrate solution (9). The irradiation system consists of a Xenon lamp (34), lenses (30a, 30b) and a light filter (32).
Abstract:
A method is described for recovering metal and sulfate values from electrolyte solutions which are withdrawn from the in-place electrolysis of sulfide ore bodies positioned beneath the earth''s surface. The electrolysis of such ore bodies produces finely divided metals, metal ions and sulfate ions. The particular metal ions present in the electrolyte is dependent upon the type of sulfide ore body being electrolyzed and the conditions of the electrolysis. The present process provides a means for continuously or periodically withdrawing electrolyte and finely divided metals from the electrolysis, separating the metal values both as solids and as ions in solution, recovering the useful products therefrom, readjusting the electrolyte to the desired conditions of pH and ion concentration and returning the readjusted electrolyte to the electrolysis.
Abstract:
An electrode assembly is described for use in direct electrochemical extraction of metal values from subterranean sulfide ore deposits. The electrode assembly is designed for insertion into a well or shaft penetrating into an ore body beneath the earth''s surface to effect electrolysis and recovery of metal values from the ore body. The electrode is comprised of titanium and preferably is designed for use as a cathode. Means are associated with the assembly for continuous or intermittent removal of precipitated metal values, the circulation of electrolyte and the isolation of the electrode within an electrolyte reservoir wherein the electrolysis takes place.
Abstract:
A process for making a V3Ga superconductive composite structure wherein a composite structure is formed by sheathing one or more elements, of vanadium metal or vanadium base alloy containing one or more of Ti, Zr or Hf in an amount of less than 10 atom %, with a pure metal selected from the group consisting of Cu, Au and Ag, said composite structure is subjected to a plastic working, the resulting composite structure is coated with gallium, and said gallium-coated composite structure is heat treated to diffuse the gallium into said coated layers and simultaneously to produce V3Ga in a boundary zone.
Abstract:
An apparatus for supplying positively controlled amounts of an atomized and vaporized liquid fuel and air for combustion in an internal combustion engine, said apparatus comprising an energizable sonic probe, having a vibratory fuel atomizing surface at one end, and a conduit including a variable volume chamber and a main metering valve for distributing controlled amounts of fuel to a means for directing a thin film of fuel across the atomizing surface. The sonic vibrational energy of the sonic probe performs work on the film as it migrates across the atomizing surface, causing the fuel to atomize and vaporize. The atomizing surface is exposed to a flow of air moving towards the engine, and the atomized fuel is effectively mixed with the air to form a highly suitable fuel-air mixture for efficient combustion in the engine. A throttle valve controls the flow of air through the passageway. The main fuel metering valve and a means for varying the volume of the variable volume chamber positively control the amount of fuel supplied in relation to the amount of air supplied through the throttle valve. In a preferred embodiment, a bypass fuel valve responsive to intake manifold pressure prevents stalling at idle throttle setting and enriches the mixture under load conditions.
Abstract:
A shock spectrum analysis and synthesis method and apparatus which includes the use of a shock spectrum analyzer and a shock spectrum synthesizer. The spectrum analysis provides an automatic simultaneous shock spectrum analysis of both the primary and residual spectrum responses for a plurality of single-degree-offreedom, mass-spring-damping systems of a plurality of natural frequencies and displaying the output signals on an oscilloscope or X-Y recorder. The synthesis comprises generating a variable transient electrical input to a vibration shaker system by generating a plurality of steady state signals each having a different frequency. A predetermined number of the lowest frequency waves are summed and then the remaining oscillating waves are sequentially gated in an order corresponding to the higher frequencies first. Then all the waves are summed to produce the desired transient.
