Abstract:
A replaceable shim is provided for a planetary gear arrangement of the type having planetary gears each of which is rotatably mounted to a frame by a shaft. The shim includes an elongated flat body having a generally U-shaped recess at one end and which is adapted to be inserted in between the planetary gear and the frame so that the shaft is positioned within the U-shaped recess. The opposite end of the shim is then pivotal to a position in which the opposite end abuts against a portion of the frame thus locking the shaft in the U-shaped recess on the shim body. A bendable locking tab is then bent to a position in which the bending tab abuts against a second surface on the frame and prevents further pivotting of the shim. In doing so, the bending tab locks the shim to the frame with the planetary gear shaft positioned within the shim recess.

A urination deterrent device comprises a mat 1 of woven or knitted fabric including electrically conductive metal threads. Fastening means in the form of tabs 4 are sewn into one edge of the fabric, whereby the mat can be fastened to furnishing fabric 2 to hang downwardly at the position of potential urination by safety pins 3. A pulsing circuit is contained in a box 5 and supplied by a mains lead 7 and provides, in operation, a high voltage series of pulses to a lead 6 connected to the mat by a clip. A mains indicator neon 20 warns humans not to touch the mat.

A weighting device 12 typically for weighting down a silage clamp or pit (1, figure 1), comprising two sheets of plastics material, having an array of welds 21,22,25, between the sheets defining an array of interconnected fillable spaces 23 between the sheets. Two tubular connectors 26 are provided on each device, connected to spaced fillable spaces 23. For use, water can be introduced via one of the connectors 26 to render the device heavy yet flexible for weighting down and uneven body. Several devices 12 can be connected together via the connectors 26 and tied together via eyelets 27 provided in the sheets.

A method for bonding airfoil sections includes aligning upper and stub airfoil sections having upper airfoil pressure and suction sides and stub airfoil pressure and suction sides respectively, pressing together upper and stub airfoil cross sections at upper and stub airfoil distal ends of the upper and stub airfoil sections respectively, and then resistance welding, preferably solid state resistance welding, the upper and stub airfoil sections together along the upper and stub airfoil cross sections by passing electrical current across the upper and stub airfoil cross sections. The upper and stub airfoil sections may be clamped between pressure and suction side upper airfoil electrodes and between the stub airfoil pressure and suction sides respectively. The method may be performed while the stub airfoil section is attached to an airfoil carrier such as a rotor disk rim, a gas turbine engine drum, or a gas turbine engine blade platform.
