Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory raw material and its manufacturing method where the uniform dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNT) or carbon nanofibers (CNF) can be relatively easily performed in a refractory and where the refractory excellent in thermal shock resistance and slag resistance can be achieved and to provide a refractory using the refractory raw material and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The refractory raw material coated with nanocarbon where the surface of refractory raw material particles 1 is coated with CNT or CNF is manufactured by supporting a catalyst on the refractory raw material particles and by heat-treating the resultant refractory raw material particles under the contact with a carbon compound. The refractory raw material coated with nanocarbon is blended with a refractory raw material by 1-30 mass% to form a refractory raw materila composition. The refractory composition is added with an organic binder, kneaded and heat-treated after molding, to thereby prepare a refractory containing nanocarbon. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
