Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon-containing basic brick having durability improved by reducing the loss due to oxidation/abrasion. SOLUTION: The carbon-containing basic brick is obtained from a blended material prepared by adding 0.5-5 mass % Al-Mg alloy, or 0.1-5 mass% Al and 0.5-5 mass% Al-Mg alloy, and 0.012-2 mass% boron-containing raw material such as magnesium borate, in external multiplication, into a mixture consisting essentially of a magnesia raw material and a carbon raw material. The carbon-containing basic brick has ≥5 MPa bending strength at room temperature after reduction firing at 1,400°C for 3 hr and the ratio S1,550/S1,400 of the bending strength S1,550 at room temperature after reduction firing at 1,550°C for 3 hr °C to the bending strength S1,400 at room temperature after reduction firing at 1,400°C for 3 hr is 0.6-1.4. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a strength and spalling resistance equivalent to a magnesia carbon brick containing a comparatively large amount of graphite, to a low carbon magnesia-containing fire-resistant unburned brick containing chromium, while preventing occurrence of a carbon pickup and maintaining superior corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The low carbonaceous magnesia carbon brick is obtained by adding an organic binder to a fire-resistant raw material mixture consisting of 90-99 mass% of a magnesia-based raw material, 0.5-5 mass% of a flake graphite, and 0.3-10 mass% of metal chromium and/or a chromium alloy; kneading; molding and heat-treating; and its fixed carbon content is 0.5-7 mass%. The magnesia-based raw material in the fire-resistant raw material mixture of this low carbon magnesia carbon brick is occupied by particles having particle sizes from larger than 10 μm to 500 μm by 20-50 mass%, and the amount of particles having a particle size of 10 μm or smaller is 5 mass% of the fire-resistant raw material mixture.
