Abstract:
An apparatus for treating water and wastewater is provided to maximize the efficiency in precipitation of particles, and remove suspended solids in a short time, by using a fixed bed contact filtration medium installed within a precipitation bath. An apparatus for treating water and wastewater comprises a reacting bath(110) and a precipitating bath(120). The reacting bath includes first and second aerating baths(112,113) communicating with each other through a hole(111a) of a first partition wall(111), filamentous carriers(114,115) respectively installed within the first and second aerating baths, and a diffuser(118) lengthily installed at lower portions within the first and second aerating baths. The diffuser is connected to an air compressor so that dissolved oxygen is injected into the first and second aerating baths. A contact filtration medium(121) with fine holes is installed in an inner space of the precipitating bath, where treated water passed by the reacting bath stays. The contact filtration medium is disposed perpendicularly to flowing of the treated water so that particles in the treated water are adsorbed, filtered off, and decomposed by microorganisms. The contact filtration medium is a saran lock bio-membrane medium, which is a nonwoven fabric member formed of fibers.
