Abstract: A passenger identification system for the vehicles is provided that the error possibility of the passenger discrimination is reduced since the gray zone is expanded. A passenger identification system for the vehicles comprises a detector(50) sensing current variance generated by the passenger who is installed at the seat in vehicle, and sits down on the sheet, and a controller(60) transmitting the decision result to the airbag control unit. The controller compares the measured current value(X) with the zero point value set up in advance, the child maximum value(Acrs), the adult minimum value(Aadt), and the boundary value (Athd) between the adult minimum value and the child maximum value.

Abstract: PURPOSE: An occupant classification system for a vehicle is provided to reduce a classification error by enlarging a gray zone corresponding to the gap between weight ranges of infant less than 1 year old and adult. CONSTITUTION: An occupant classification system for a vehicle comprises a detector(50) and a controller(70). The detector detects the current variation generated by an occupant. The controller decides the seated state and type of the occupant using the current value and transmits the decision result to an ACU(Airbag Control Unit). The detector comprises a sensing part(10), an ammeter(20), and a switching circuit(40). An insulator of the sensing part is located between a sensing conductor(11) and a guard conductor(12). The ammeter measures the current amount from the sensing part. The switching circuit to which AC(Alternating Current) power source(30) is provided forms one or more closed loops by connecting the sensing part and the ammeter.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting a passenger on a car seat are provided to ensure higher accuracy in discrimination of airbag inflation by using weight sensors capable of correctly sensing weight difference between an adult and child, and obtain high design flexibility while reducing manufacturing costs by using two modularized weight sensors instead of using four modularized weight sensors. An apparatus for detecting if a passenger on a car seat is an adult or a child on a basis of weight detected by a weight sensor, comprises sensor housing(12), a cover housing(13), a weight sensing unit(10), and a tolerance absorption member. The sensor housing with grooved cross section is installed on a pair of base members(21) fixed to a lower part of the car seat. The cover housing is configured to cover the sensor housing. The weight sensing unit comprises two weight sensors mounted between the sensor housing and cover housing. The tolerance absorption member is installed in a space between the sensor housing on which the weight sensor is mounted, and the cover housing to protect the weight sensor against impact by removing tolerance.
