    Abstract: PURPOSE: A Sparus aurata-derived delta-6 desaturase protein, SaD6DES is provided to develop oil plants which produce functional gamma-linolenic acid and stearidonic acid. CONSTITUTION: A Sparus aurata-derived delta-6 desaturase protein has an amino acid of sequence number 2. A gene encoding the protein contains a base sequence of sequence number 1. A recombinant vector, pYES2-SaD6DES, contains the gene. A method for preparing gamma-linolenic acid or stearidonic acid in host cells comprises a step of transforming a host cell with the recombinant vector. The host cell is yeast. A composition for producing gamma-linolenic acid or stearidonic acid contains the gene.
