Abstract: PURPOSE: An Oryza Sativa L. extract is provided to suppress the expression of a gene of melanogenesis-related enzyme and to directly suppress melanogenesis, thereby showing superior whitening effects. CONSTITUTION: An ethanol extract of Oryza Sativa L. has whitening effect. Oryza Sativa L. is produced by artificial crossbreeding between Oryza sativa cv. Heugnambyeo and Milyang 153. The ethanol extract is prepared using 75-85 % ethanol. The ethanol extract suppresses melanogenesis and the expression of tyrosinase, TRP-1, and TRP-2 genes.
