Abstract: A substrate carrying and processing apparatus is provided to reduce a substrate reception space by forming a gap between a plurality of loading shelves narrower than the thicknesses of a substrate carrying unit and a substrate transferring unit. A substrate carrying and processing apparatus includes a carrier block(S1), a process block(S2), a substrate carrying unit(D), a substrate containing part, and a substrate transferring unit. The carrier block(S1) arranges carriers(20) capable of containing a plurality of substrates(W). The process block(S2) has a plurality of process units(U1-U4). The process units((U1-U4)) properly process the substrate(W) drawn out from the carriers(20). The substrate carrying unit(D) moves vertically and horizontally for carrying the substrates(W) from the carrier block(S1) to the process units(U1-U4). The substrate containing part is arranged between the carrier block(S1) and the process block(S2) and has an opening for receiving and containing the plurality of substrates(W). The substrate carrying unit(D) moves vertically and horizontally for delivering the substrates(W) between the carrier block(S1) and the substrate containing part.
