Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing Eriobotrya japonica extract is provided to reduce body weight and to suppress adipocyte proliferation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating obesity contains Eriobotrya japonica extract as an active ingredient. The composition also contains Nelumbo nucifera G. extract as an active ingredient. The Nelumbo nucifera G. extract is isolated using a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, alcohol of 1-5 carbon atoms, ethyl acetate, acetone, ether, chloroform, benzene, hexane, and dichloromethane.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a dietary supplement of a composition comprising a leaf extract of Nelumbo nucifera gaertn and Eriobotrya japonica as an active ingredient for treating and preventing obesity. The extract of Nelumbo nucifera gaertn and Eriobotrya japonica of the present invention has been verified to have effects of significantly suppressing a formation of lipid and promoting lipolysis from an experiment for a suppressing effect of lipid formation and a lipolysis promoting effect using 3T3-L1 adipocyte. The herbal mixture extract of Nelumbo nucifera gaertn and Eriobotrya japonica of the present invention can be usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating obesity.
