Abstract: A device and a method for inputting characters of a mobile terminal by using a touch screen are provided to supply an automatic input mode when a plurality of characters is allocated to one key, thereby enabling a user to input a desired character by one touch. If touch is generated, a touch screen(140) detects coordinates values of a spot where the touch is generated. The touch screen displays characters according to the touch. If the touch is maintained in the touch screen, a controller(160) counts a touched time. If a character changing period passes, the controller controls the characters displayed on the touch screen to be changed. When initially inputting characters or changing characters, a vibration generator(150) generates a vibration signal under the control of the controller. The touch screen assigns a plurality of characters to one key.
