Abstract: PURPOSE: A wafer transfer device is to prevent bad transfer of a wafer and a reduction of the rate of operation by accurately accomplishing a power transmission with a belt even in a vacuum state by adopting a timing belt engaging type. CONSTITUTION: Engagement of a pulley(20) and a belt(30) on a rotating axis of a motor is made by using a timing belt. A circumscribed gear is formed in a belt groove(22) of the pulley to be projected further. An inscribed gear(32) engaged with the circumscribed gear of the pulley is formed inside surface of the belt to be projected further. The wafer transfer device loads a wafer mounted cassette into a vacuum preparatory chamber to maintain a vacuum state and transfers the wafer into a vacuum chamber in a power transmission type. The belt and the pulley are engaged with each other in a timing belt engaging manner wherein the inscribed gear and the circumscribed gear are engaged with each other. Thus, since a driving force is normally transmitted from a motor even under a state of vacuum, a bad feed of a wafer caused by a slip with reduced friction force or a drooping of the belt itself can be prevented.
