Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Trachelospermi caulis is provided to exhibit excellent inhibitory activities against inflammatory symptoms such as inflammations and pains, expression of enzymes such as p-p38 MAP and p-NFkappaB, acute inflammation, and acute edema, thereby being effective for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and edema comprises an extract of Trachelospermi caulis as an effective ingredient. A method for preparing the extract comprises the steps of: (a) extracting Trachelospermi caulis with a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, alcohol and an aqueous alcohol solution, cooling and filtering the extract; (b) after separating aqueous layers from the resulting filtrate, concentrating it at a temperature of 60-80 deg.C under reduced pressure; and (c) after adding alcohol to the obtained concentrate and centrifuging it with the speed of 500-1,000 rpm, concentrating it under reduced pressure, vacuum-drying the concentrate, and crushing and sterilizing the dried material.

Abstract: A drug of herbal mixture is provided to alleviate pain, and inhibit chronic and acute inflammation, secretion of enzymes associated with inflammation, and production of NO(nitrogen oxide) and iNOs(inducible nitrogen oxide), so that the drug is useful for treating or preventing inflammatory diseases. A drug of herbal mixture containing extracts of Trachelospermi Caulis and Pyrola japonica contains 0.5-1.1 wt.% of arctiin, and is prepared by (1) mixing Trachelospermi Caulis and Pyrola japonica, extracting the mixture with water, alcohol or aqueous alcohol, and cooling and filtering the extract; (2) adding aqueous alcohol into the filtered solution to separate layers and concentrating the layer-separated solution at 60-80 deg. C under reduced pressure; and (3) adding alcohol into the concentrate, centrifuging the mixture at 500-1000 rpm, and vacuum concentrating, vacuum drying, pulverizing and sterilizing the centrifuged product. Further, the drug is useful for treating or preventing arthritis or oedema.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing ethylacetate fraction of Trachelospermi caulis dry extract is provided to ensure improved anti-inflammation effect and use in preventing and treating inflammatory diseases. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating inflammatory disease contains ethylacetate fraction of Trachelospermi caulis dry extract. The Trachelospermi caulis dry extract contains 0.05-12 weight% of arctigenin. The Trachelospermi caulis dry extract is obtained by extracting with methanol or ethanol. The ethylacetate fraction of the Trachelospermi caulis dry extract contains 6-20 weight% of arctigenin. A method for producing the ethylacetate fraction comprises: a step of dissolving Trachelospermi caulis dry extract and mixing ethylacetate in dissolved solution to separate water and ethylacetate; a step of collecting ethylacetate layer; and a step of removing solvent from the ethylacetate layer and concentrating to contain 0.05-12 weight% of arctigenin content.
