Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing an Ixeris dentata NaKai extract as an active ingredient for suppressing oral bacteria is provided to suppress the growth of Streptococcus mutans, generation of organic acid, and formation of a Streptococcus mutans biofilm, thereby preventing, alleviating, and treating dental diseases without side effects. CONSTITUTION: A composition for suppressing oral bacteria contains an Ixeris dentata NaKai extract as an active ingredient. The extract suppresses the growth of Streptococcus mutans, generation of organic acid by Streptococcus mutans, and formation of a Streptococcus mutans biofilm. A preventive and therapeutic agent for dental diseases for suppressing oral bacteria contains the extract as an active ingredient. The preventive and therapeutic agent is formulated in a unit dose form by adding a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, excipient, or diluents. The preventive and therapeutic agent is manufactured in the form selected from a group consisted of an oral cleanser, a toothpaste, an oral spray, and a denture cleaner.
