Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for isolating salvianolic acid B from Salvia miltiorrhiza root methanol extract is provided to ensure high yield of the salvianolic acid B and to enhance availability to circulatory system diseases treatment. CONSTITUTION: A method for isolating salvianolic acid B from Salvia miltiorrhiza root methanol extract comprises: a step of suspending Salvia miltiorrhiza root crude extract with water and eluting with chloroform; a step of separating the extract to chloroform layer and water layer to remove lipid ingredient; a step of adjusting the water layer with trifluoreacetic acid; a step of fractioning the water layer with ethyl acetate; and a step of performing sepadex LH-20 column chromatography to obtain salvianolic acid B-containing fraction.
