    Abstract: PURPOSE: A flame-retardant polystyrene foam bead and a producing method thereof are provided to offer excellent fire retardant property, thermal insulation ability, and mechanical strength to the bead. CONSTITUTION: A flame-retardant polystyrene foam bead contains the following: a mixed resin containing 90-99wt% of styrene system resin, and 1-10wt% of char producing thermoplastic resin; inorganic foam particles dispersed in the mixed resin; and a foaming agent impregnated in the mixed resin. The styrene system resin has the weight average molecular weight of 180,000-300,000g/mol. The char producing thermoplastic resin contains an oxygen bond, an aromatic group, or their combination on a main chain.
