    Abstract: PURPOSE: A novel compound (dye compound) and a chemical sensor are provided to show color and absorbance changes by forming a complex with a copper ion (Cu^2+), thereby being applied to the chemical sensor for detecting copper ions, and to easily detect the presence of the copper ions with high selectivity and excellent sensitivity. CONSTITUTION: A compound is denoted by chemical formula 1. A method for preparing the compound of chemical formula 1 comprises the step of reacting a compound of chemical formula 2 with a compound of chemical formula 3. The compound of chemical formula 2 is prepared by formylation reaction of mono alpha-aldehyde. A chemical sensor for detecting heavy metal ions contains the compound of chemical formula 1. The heavy metal ion is a copper ion (Cu^2+).

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A compound is provided to enhance selectivity to a specific heavy metal ion, and to easily and quickly detect the existence of heavy metal ions with the unaided eye. CONSTITUTION: A compound is represented by chemical formula 1. A method for manufacturing the compound comprises a step of reacting 5-phenyl diazenyl salicylaldehyde(I) and 4-phenylthiosemicabazide(II) under the presence of an acid catalyst. A chemical sensor for detecting divalent metal ions includes the compound. The divalent metal ions are selected from Cd^2+, Hg^2+, Ni^2+, Zn^2+, and Cu^2+. The chemical sensor shows color change and absorbance change by forming the composite of a compound represented by chemical formula 1 and the divalent metal ions.
