Abstract: A cutter head design method for a tunnel boring machine having disc cutters for rock masses is provided to derive optimal design factors of a cutter head for the tunnel boring machine and thus to predict a boring speed. A cutter head design method for a tunnel boring machine having disc cutters for rock masses comprises the steps of inputting data of the tunnel boring machine and data of the disc cutters mounted on the tunnel boring machine, calculating design factors associated with the disc cutters from a linear cutting test performed on the rock masses, which are collected at a place where the tunnel boring machine having disc cutters is applied, using the disc cutters, calculating design factors of the cutter head of the tunnel boring machine having disc cutters on the basis of the design factors associated with the disc cutters, and calculating a boring speed of the tunnel boring machine on the basis of the calculated cutter head design factors.
