Abstract: A hardware structure for adaptively prediction coding an image signal using spatial correlation and a method therefor are provided. The prediction coding apparatus has a packet change detection unit which determines whether or not blocks used to determine a prediction direction for a current block for which prediction is currently performed is included in a same packet to which the current block belongs; a prediction reference value providing unit which provides a prediction reference value used in prediction according to the result of determination by the packet change detection unit; and a prediction calculation unit which outputs a predictive coded value or a predictive decoded value using the prediction reference value provided by the prediction reference value providing unit and the DCT component of the current block according to an operation mode. According to the apparatus and method, the size of a prediction apparatus is reduced, and one apparatus is used both in coding and decoding.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A predicting system and method for encoding or decoding a video signal are provided to reduce the volume of the predicting system and use one system for both of encoding and decoding processes. CONSTITUTION: A predicting system for encoding or decoding a video signal includes a packet variation detector(410), a prediction basic value provider(420), and a prediction calculator(430). The packet variation detector judges whether or not a prediction basic value used for prediction of a block for which prediction is currently performed belongs to the same packet as the current block. The prediction basic value provider provides the prediction basic value. The prediction calculator outputs a prediction encoding value or prediction decoding value using the prediction basic value provided by the prediction basic value provider and a discrete cosine transform coefficient of the current block according to an operation mode.

Abstract: An intra prediction coding acceleration method and a device thereof are provided to accelerate an intra prediction coding process by using a fast mode decision method for intra prediction. An intra prediction mode unit calculates an intra prediction mode according to neighboring block data of a block for performing intra prediction. A DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) converter converts the calculated intra prediction mode value through a DCT process. An SAE(Sum of Absolute Error) calculator(600) calculates an SAE value according to the DCT value. A quantizer quantizes the DCT-applied value. An output multiplexer determines an optimum quantized intra mode by using the SAE calculated value and the quantized value.
