Abstract: PURPOSE: A device for converting a color image into a gray image, and an apparatus and a method for detecting an object in the color image using the same are provided to correctly detect an object with a specific color. CONSTITUTION: A class classification unit(412) classifies a plurality of RGB data into C-class including two or more RGB data according to the color distribution of a plurality of RGB data in a color space. A converting matrix calculator(414) produces converting matrix. An image converting unit(416) converts a color image into a white/black image by using the converting matrix. An object detection unit(420) detects one or more objects from a white/black image.
