    Abstract: Acoustically active articles having a composition including a nano-structured metal oxide are provided. The nano-structured metal oxide has the formula M1xM2yOz, where M1 is selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and combinations thereof, M2 is a transition metal or post-transition metal, and M2 has an atomic number no greater than 78. The articles can lower a resonant frequency of a cavity by no less than 50 Hz when the cavity is filled with the article and the resonant frequency is in a range from about 50 Hz to about 1500 Hz.

    Abstract: Nonlinear composite compositions comprise a dielectric matrix material and flakes of a mixed metal oxide having the formula M1 x M2 y O z dispersed in the dielectric matrix material. M1 is selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and combinations thereof. M2 is a transition metal or post-transition metal, wherein M2 has an atomic number no greater than 78. The number x is in the range 0.3 ≤ x ≤ 1, y is a number in the range 0.5 ≤ y ≤ 1.5, and z is a number selected such that the mixed metal oxide is electrically neutral, wherein the amount of flakes in the nonlinear composite composition is sufficient that the nonlinear composite composition has a nonlinear increasing conductivity in response to increasing electric field. Methods of making nonlinear composite compositions and articles including them are disclosed.

    Abstract: Composite particles comprising quantum dot light emitters, a nonvolatile liquid ligand system, and hydrolyzed organometallic metal oxide precursor, wherein the quantum dot light emitters and the nonvolatile liquid ligand system are collectively present in the composite particles in an amount of at least 30 weight percent. Composite particles described herein are useful, for example, in films (e.g., remote phosphor diffuser films). Remote phosphor diffuser films are useful, for example, in LCD displays.

    Abstract: Article comprising composite particles in an organic polymer matrix comprising a cured thiol-alkene resin having a T g > 20°C, the composite particles comprising a hydrophobic nonmetallic inorganic matrix, ligands, and quantum dots, wherein the hydrophobic nonmetallic inorganic matrix is present in the composite particles in an amount of up to 40 volume percent. Exemplary articles described herein can be made for use for display applications such as films, LED caps, LED coatings, LED lenses, and light guides. Exemplary articles described herein can be made for use for non-display applications such as security applications where quantum dot phosphors are used to provide fluorescence at selected or tailored wavelengths.
