    Abstract: Chlorhexidine gluconate is a commonly used disinfectant that is soluble in aqueous solutions. Because it is a common disinfectant, chlorhexidine gluconate is often used in alcohol solvents, but chlorhexidine gluconate is not soluble in C2-05 alcohol solvents. Also, a chlorhexidine gluconate containing solution can be susceptible to spontaneous calcium gluconate crystallization when formulated with high levels of solvent such as alcohol. These calcium gluconate crystals appear like glass shards. It is desirable to inhibit the formation of these crystals without affecting the antimicrobial potency of the solution. The disclosed chlorhexidine antimicrobial composition includes a chelating agent to inhibit formation of this salt or reverse crystal formation.

    Abstract: The invention includes a forced-air blanket for providing a profusion of air to a patient, comprising a bottom layer with a plurality of openings configured to allow a profusion of air to pass through the bottom layer and an upper layer bonded to the bottom layer around a periphery, wherein the upper layer is also bonded to bottom layer by a plurality of linear seals and a plurality of staked seals. In an embodiment, at least one of more of the linear seals have one end which is joined to a portion of the periphery. In another embodiment, the forced-air blanket may further include at least one elongated seal that is positioned proximate to the inlet. The arrangement of the plurality of staked seals, elongated seals and linear seals assists in providing a blanket that is of a low-profile with even air distribution.

    Abstract: Provided is a method of forming a fibrinogen hydrogel composition, the method including providing a fibrinogen hydrogel or precursor thereof, comprising fibrinogen hydrogel forming salt. The fibrinogen hydrogel forming salt concentration is greater than or equal to the threshold concentration to form a fibrinogen hydrogel. The method further includes denaturing the fibrinogen hydrogel such as by heating. The method optionally further includes combining the fibrinogen hydrogel with a carrier material. When present, the concentration of the carrier material typically ranges from 0.1 to about 50 wt.-%. The method further includes reducing the salt concentration below the threshold concentration to form a fibrinogen hydrogel.

    Abstract: A copolymer composition that includes a silicone copolymer, methods of making the composition, and articles that include the composition, wherein the copolymer composition includes a silicone copolymer having a backbone composition that includes: silicone segments in an amount of 5 wt-% to 40 wt-%, based on the total weight of the silicone copolymer; hydrophilic segments in an amount of 40 wt-% to 75 wt-%, based on the total weight of the silicone copolymer; and reinforcing segments in an amount of 5 wt-% to 30 wt-%, based on the total weight of the silicone copolymer, wherein the reinforcing segments are derived from the reaction of one or more chain extenders with one or more multi-functional isocyanates, multi-functional carboxylic acids, multi-functional anhydrides, multi-functional esters, and/or multi-functional acid halides; wherein the silicone segments, hydrophilic segments, and reinforcing segments are connected through urea, urethane, amide, and/or oxamide linkages; wherein the hydrophilic segments and the reinforcing segments are present in a weight ratio of 1.8:1 to 8:1; and the hydrophilic segments and the silicone segments are present in a weight ratio of 1.3:1 to 4.5:1.
