Abstract: An automatic painting device that prevents malfunction of a gripper (56) and poor painting due to nonfilling or insufficient filling of paint, and improves reliability. A cartridge gripping device (55) comprises a gripper (56) having a gripping pawl (66) for gripping a cartridge (25), a gripping state detecting switch (67) for detecting whether or not the gripper (56) grips the cartridge (25), and a filled state detecting switch (68) for detecting whether or not the cartridge (25) gripped by the gripper (56) is filled with paint. Thereby, when the cartridge (25) is gripped by the gripper (56), the gripping state detecting switch (67) is capable of confirming the gripping state of the cartridge (25). Further, the filled state detecting switch (68) is capable of confirming the filled state of the paint in the cartridge (25).
