Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic continuous and random access analytical system that has instruments and methods by which a plurality of liquid samples can be assayed simultaneously by different assay methods and, at the same time, executes a plurality of different assays on identical or different samples during the same period of time by giving continuous random accesses, and to provide a method of operating the system. SOLUTION: In this method, a variety of assays on the plurality of liquid samples are scheduled and a reagent 30 is divided into disposable unit quantities 34. Then first liquid samples 26 and reagent 30 divided into the disposable unit quantities 34 are separately transferred to a reaction chamber 34 without starting any assay reaction sequence and the disposable unit quantities 34 of the reagent 30 are physically transferred to a processing work station 46 to obtain mixtures 34 of the disposable unit quantities of the reagent 30 and samples during cultivation.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an automated, continuous and random access analytical system, having apparatus and methodology capable of simultaneously performing multiple assays of liquid samples using different assay methodologies, and providing a continuous and random access while performing a plurality of different assays on the same or different samples during the same time period; and a method for operating the automated continuous and random access analytical system capable of simultaneously effecting multiple assays of a plurality of liquid samples. SOLUTION: This method schedules various assays of the plurality of liquid samples, creates a unit dose disposable and separately transfer a first liquid sample and reagents to a reaction vessel without initiation of an assay reaction sequence, and then physically transfers the unit dose disposable to a processing workstation, thereby achieving a mixture of the unit dose disposable reagents and sample during an incubation.
