Abstract: 2107793 9219247 PCTABS00017 Antibacterial compounds having formula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 is -NR4R6, where R4 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, loweralkyl and arylalkyl or, together, R4 and R6 form a nitrogen-containing heterocycle attached at the nitrogen atom; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, -OH and, when R3 is methylene, oxygen so as to form an epoxide; and R3 is selected from the group consisting of -CH2OH, -NR4R6, -(CH2)nNR4R6 and, when R2 is oxygen, methylene so as to form an epoxide, where n is 1-4 and R4 and R6 are as previously defined, with the proviso that when R2 is -OH, R3 may not be -NR4R6; or R2 and R3 together are =CH2; also disclosed are processes and intermediates useful in the preparation of the above compounds, as well as compositions containing the same methods for their use.
