Provided are: an aromatic sulfonium salt compound which exhibits low corrosion to a substrate and excellent photolithographic characteristics and is thus useful as a photoacid generator and as a cationic polymerization agent; and a photoacid generator, a resist composition, a cationic polymerization initiator and a cationically polymerizable agent composition, which include the aromatic sulfonium salt compound. The aromatic sulfonium salt compound is represented by the following Formula (I): (wherein, R 1 to R 10 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, a cyano group, an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms which is optionally substituted, or the like; R 11 to R 15 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkoxy group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms which is optionally substituted, or the like; at least one of R 11 to R 15 is not a hydrogen atom; and X 1 - represents a monovalent organic sulfonate anion).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye having excellent solvent resistance and heat resistance, a new compound suitable for the dye, a colored (alkali-developing) photosensitive composition using the dye, an optical filter using the colored alkali-developing photosensitive composition, especially a color filter not lowering brightness and suitable for an image display device such as a liquid crystal display panel, etc.SOLUTION: A compound is represented by general formula (I). A colored (alkali-developing) photosensitive composition includes a dye (A) containing at least one of the compounds represented by general formula (I), a polymerizable compound (B) containing an ethylenic unsaturated bond or a polymerizable compound (B') having alkali developing property and containing an ethylenic unsaturated bond and a photopolymerization initiator (C).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimming liquid crystal device having sufficient contrast, drivable over a wide temperature range, and excellent in light resistance(weatherability) in particular. SOLUTION: The dimming liquid crystal device comprises two base plates having electrode layers with at least one of the base plates being transparent, and a dimming layer supported in between these base plates. In this device, the dimming layer comprises a nematic liquid crystal material and a transparent solid material, wherein the nematic liquid crystal material comprises a compound of the general formula(I) and/or a compound of the general formula(II) and a compound of the general formula(III) and is dispersed in the transparent solid material in the form of independent microdroplets whose average size is 0.1-50μm.
