Disclosed is a lubricant additive capable of providing an antioxidant which enables a lubricant composition to have long drain intervals, while reducing specific components such as metal contents and phosphorus atoms. Also disclosed is a lubricant composition containing such a lubricant additive. Specifically disclosed is a phosphorus-molybdenum compound represented by the following general formula (I) where R1, R2 and R3 independently represent a hydrocarbon group having 1-20 carbon atoms.

Disclosed is a phosphorus molybdenum amine compound which is a phosphorus molybdenum compound characterized by being represented by the following gen eral formula (1). (In the formula, R1-R6 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group and p represents a number of 1-5, provided that all of R1-R6 are not hydrogen atoms at the same time.) The phosphorus molybd enum compound is also characterized by being obtained by reducing a hexavale nt molybdenum compound with a reducing agent, and then reacting the resultin g with an acidic phosphate ester after neutralization with a mineral acid.
