Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To house an ultrasonic device in a single portable unit by housing an array converter, a transceiver circuit and a beam forming device within a housing container so as to miniaturize the ultrasonic device. SOLUTION: Call originating/receiving ASIC 20 within the housing container controls the call-originating/receiving opening of a converter array 10 and the gain of a receiving echo signal, transfers a received echo to a front end ASIC 30 and beam-forms an echo from individual converter elements to a scanning line signal, and a storage device 32 stores data used by the beam forming device. The beam-formed scanning line signal is transferred to a digital signal processing ASIC 40 to transfer obtained ultrasonic B mode and doppler information to a back end ASIC 50. ASIC 50 is connected to a data port set as an infrared transmitter or a PCMCIA interface 56 to connect another module and function to the ultrasonic unit.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly display thick blood vessels in capillary vessels by differentiating a coherent echo signal received from two pulse transmissions and detecting the differentiated signal and displaying it in an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus for detecting coherent of an ultrasonic contrasting agent. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic probe 10 has an array 12 of an ultrasonic converter and an ultrasonic echo is transferred to a divided channel of a beam generator 16 through a transmitter/receiver 14 to form a sequence of a coherent echo signal in accordance with the depth of receiving in the body of a patient. After this echo signal is demodulated to a rectangular phase by means of an I/Q demodulator 18, it is filtered and detected and transferred to a scanning converter 40 through a B mode processor 37. I and Q signal components are transferred to a pulse-pulse differentiating circuit 24 and the differentiated signal is transferred to an event identifying tool 27 through an amplitude detector 20 and a micro-bubble destroying event is identified there and an image obtd. by an operation converter 40 is displayed on a displaying apparatus 50.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the mingling of an unnecessary virtual image into Doppler information by making a filter process with a minimum-maximum value filter. SOLUTION: Image clutter is removed from a Doppler signal by a flash suppressing processor for each large frame in a display signal. When the Doppler signal of the new frame Fn is received, it is compared with the value of the previous frame Fn-1 , and the minimum value MIN1 is selected by a minimum value selector 630. It is compared with the previously selected minimum value MIN2 stored in an image buffer A by a maximum value selector 636 to select the maximum value MAX. The minimum-maximum value is subtracted from the Doppler signal value of the frame Fn-1 at that time by a subtractor 638, it is compared with the signal displacement threshold value by a comparator 640. If it is the threshold value or above, the minimum-maximum value is set as the Doppler signal value of the present frame. If it is the threshold value or below, the frame value Fn-1 is set as the Doppler signal value of the present frame. A virtual image can be then removed.

Abstract: SCAN CONVERSION APPARATUS AND METHOD An improved scan converter for converting received echo signals representative of the amplitude of ultrasound energy returning from sampled points along a plurality of spaced apart paths distributed in an image space into signals to be displayed as display pixels in a raster scan display system. The scan converter includes a scan data memory for storing the received echo signals in quadrants of the scan data memory. Each quadrant is associated with even and odd numbered paths and sample row combinations. Sample rows are related to sample points along the spaced apart paths. The scan converter further includes a circuit for determing a gray scale value to be assigned to each selected display pixel based on a predetermined combination of four received echo signals adjacent the selected display pixel and chosen from the quadrants of the scan data memory. The improved scan converter is capable of operation in both linear and sector scan modes, and, when in the sector mode, over 90.degree. and 180.degree. sectors. Variable scaling between the image space and display space and correction of the hose error when the scanning system employs an oscillating wobbler scan head are provided. Various techniques for converting display pixel rectangular coordinates into polar coordinates in real time for raster scan display are employed.

Abstract: The ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system scans an image region to receive a number of spatially arranged lines of ultrasonic image information signals. The ultrasonic line information signals are used in an interpolater to interpolate one or more lines which are spatially interlineated between each pair of spatially adjoining received lines. The interpolated lines are produced using either the received RF or demodulated IF ultrasonic image information signals. The interpolated lines are produced prior to scan conversion, and preferably prior to nonlinear processing such as detection or log compression to reduce spatial aliasing artifacts. Pref the interpolater comprises a transversal filter of four taps which is responsive to received line information signals from a common range or depth or the interpolater may be adaptively responsive to motion to select samples for interpolation which would be spatially at the same range in the absence of motional effects.

Abstract: A circuit for controlling a patient exposure timer used to measure the time which a patient has been exposed to ultrasound energy is disclosed. The circuit operates by measuring a signal representative of whether an ultrasound transducer is coupled to air or to a patient. If the transducer is coupled to a patient, then the exposure timer is turned on. In the case of a mechanical scanhead, such as an oscillating scanhead or a rotating scanhead, the exposure timer control circuit can also be used to control the mechanical movement of the scanhead itself.

Abstract: An improved scan converter for converting received echo signals representative of the amplitude of ultrasound energy returning from sampled points along a plurality of spaced apart paths distributed in an image space into signals to be displayed as display pixels in a raster scan display system. The scan converter includes a scan data memory for storing the received echo signals in quadrants of the scan data memory. Each quadrant is associated with even and odd numbered paths and sample row combinations. Sample rows are related to sample points along the spaced apart paths. The scan converter further includes a circuit for determining a gray scale value to be assigned to each selected display pixel based on a predetermined combination of four received echo signals adjacent the selected display pixel and chosen from the quadrants of the scan data memory. The improved scan converter is capable of operation in both linear and sector scan modes, and, when in the sector mode, over 90 DEG and 180 DEG sectors. Variable scaling between the image space and display space and correction of the hose error when the scanning system employs an oscillating wobbler scan head are provided. Various techniques for converting display pixel rectangular coordinates into polar coordinates in real time for raster scan display are employed.
