    Abstract: Heavy metal adsorbents comprising granules of a mixture of nitrohumic acid and at least one binder selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group-containing polymeric compound and a water-insoluble salt thereof. These heavy metal adsorbents are produced advantageously by either a process wherein a mixture of nitrohumic acid and a carboxyl group-containing polymeric compound is kneaded with an aqueous solution of alkali and the kneaded mixture is first subjected to an acid treatment and then shaped into granules, or a process wherein nitrohumic acid and a carboxyl group-containing polymeric compound are dissolved in an aqueous solution of alkali, the solution is acidified to form a precipitate and then the precipitate is separated and shaped into granules. The granular products thus obtained can be further improved in mechanical strength by means of a heat treatment.

    Abstract: Title of the Invention: OIL ADSORBENT AND A METHOD OF PRODUCING SAME An oil adsorbent comprising natural fibers the surface of which is coated with a water-repellent paraffin layer which is in turn coated with an elastic rubber layer. The adsorbent is manufactured by treating the surface of the natural fibers with a paraffin emulsion, drying the fibers to form a water repellent paraffin layer thereon, treating the product with a latex, and then curing the latex to form an elastic rubber layer on the paraffin layer. The oil adsorbent has such advantages that it floats on the surface of water stably for a long period of time retaining its original form, that the contained paraffin is not back extracted by adsorbed oil and that it does not cause any trouble on burning.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten the irradiation time and to completely decompose the harmful material into carbon dioxide and other inorg. material by oxidizing waste water and then irradiating the water with light in the presence of a semiconductor catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Waste water is previously oxidized and then irradiated with light in the presence of a semiconductor catalyst to decompose the harmful material. The waste water is oxidized by ozone, hydrogen peroxide or chlorine and then irradiated with UV. semiconductor powders are then suspended in the pretreated water or the water is brought into contact with a membrane on which the semiconductor powder is immobilized, and the waste water is irradiated with light directly or through a glass vessel. A lamp with the emitting light contg. UV and a part of visible light is used as the light source.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily deterge the waste water of the emulsifying oil contg. a large amount of a surface active agent by using a filter medium obtd. by mixing an alkaline earth metal compd. or its alloy to a fibrous material, and then forming it to a nonwoven fabric, a pile and a felt like filter mediums. CONSTITUTION:The filter medium is formed by mixing the powders of the alkaline earth metal compds. such as MgO, MgCO3, Mg(OH)2, CaO, CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 and CaSO4, etc., or the powders of the alloy contg. said compds. such as CaSi2, MgCaSi, MgSiFe and CaSiAl, etc., to a synthetic fiber or a natural fiber and then by forming it to a paper like and a laminate structure according to a felt making method or a paper making method. And then, the waste water of the emulsifying oil is filtered by using said filter medium. Thus, an oil component constituting the emulsifying oil and the surface active agent can be removed at a same time.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To open the way for effective utilization and solidify the subject copolymer capable of converting polybiphenyl chloride into a nontoxic solid substance by subjecting the polybiphenyl chloride and a specific metallic acid ester to the dechlorinating copolymerization. CONSTITUTION:Polybiphenyl chloride and a metallic acid ester expressed by the formula M(OR)4 (M is titanium, zirconium or niobium; R is aliphatic group) are subjected to the dechlorinating copolymerization in the presence of a radical polymerization catalyst in an organic solvent (preferably an electron donative organic solvent) to afford the solid copolymer. Furthermore, the reaction is preferably carried out by irradiating the reactional mixture with light.
