Abstract: PURPOSE:To open the way for effective utilization and solidify the subject copolymer capable of converting polybiphenyl chloride into a nontoxic solid substance by subjecting the polybiphenyl chloride and a specific metallic acid ester to the dechlorinating copolymerization. CONSTITUTION:Polybiphenyl chloride and a metallic acid ester expressed by the formula M(OR)4 (M is titanium, zirconium or niobium; R is aliphatic group) are subjected to the dechlorinating copolymerization in the presence of a radical polymerization catalyst in an organic solvent (preferably an electron donative organic solvent) to afford the solid copolymer. Furthermore, the reaction is preferably carried out by irradiating the reactional mixture with light.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a ferromagnetic carbon material which M small has a specific gravity, and can be incinerated easily and is excellent in fitting to an organism by obtaining an ungraphitized carbides where the carbon content is specified, using an aromatic compound, which contains carbon other than carbon in a ring, as a material. CONSTITUTION:In an aromatic condensed polycyclic compound, a substance, which includes carbon other than carbon at least two places in the ring as the constituent member of the ring, is thermally decomposed, using a kind of ferromagnetic salt as a catalyst, and besides after thermal decomposition, the ferromagnetic metal is removed by hydrochloric acid. Hereby, a ferromagnetic carbon material consisting of ungraphatized carbides where the content of carbon is substantially 100% is manufactured. Here, it means the purity of the carbon cable of being materialized by removing the former element other than carbon from the aromatic compound used as a material that the content of carbon is 100%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a solid copolymer by copolymerizing a satd. halogenated hydrocarbon with an ester of a metallic acid of a given formula in an org. solvent in the presence of an electron donor catalyst under dehalogenation. CONSTITUTION:1 pt.wt. satd. halogenated hydrocarbon such as a 1-3C fluorocarbon is added to and dissolved in 10-150 pts.wt. org. solvent of an electron donor type such as tetrahydrofuran, to which 0.3-0.8 pt.wt. solid radical polymn. initiator such as silica gel is then added. The resulting mixture is admixed with 1-5mol, per mol of the satd. halogenated hydrocarbon, ester of a metallic acid of the formula: M(OR)4 (wherein M is Ti, Zr, or the like; and R is an aliph. hydrocarbon), such as butyl titanate. The resulting mixture is reacted at 20 to 70 deg.C for 10 to 120 hours while being irradiated with a light of 300 to 800nm in dominant wavelength. After the completion of the reaction, the solvent is evaporated for removal thereof to obtain a harmless solid copolymer constituted of a metal, oxygen and a satd. hydrocarbon skeleton.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide novel ferromagnetic carbon material excellent magnetic characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The title ferromagnetic carbon material is composed of ferromagnetic carbon material consisting of an ungraphitized carbide containing paramagnetic metal or metal compound powder, and the ferromagnetic carbon material is manufactured by removing the paramagnetic metal or metal compound powder from the above-mentioned ferromagnetic carbon material. The carbon- containing substance, in which paramagnetic metal or metal compound powder is added, is thermally decomposed in an atmosphere containing the gas which can be reacted with hydrogen, and ferromagnetic containing the paramagnetic metal or metal compound powder, having the characteristics in which ungraphitized carbide is grown, is manufactured. From the ferromagnetic carbon material containing powder of the paramagnetic metal or metal compound produced by the above-mentioned method, the powder of paramagnetic metal or metal compound is extracted and removed in an acidic solution to manufacture a ferromagnetic material.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a compound having optically catalytic activity, by subjecting an alloy containing lanthanum and nickel to sulfuration and oxidation treatment. CONSTITUTION:A compound having optically catalytic activity obtained by subjecting an alloy containing lanthanum and nickel to sulfuration and oxidation treatment. For example, lanthanum pentanickel is heat-treated in carbon disulfide at 500 deg.C for 30min, heat-treated in oxygen at 200 deg.C for 30min and these operations are repeated for three times to give a substance which leaves the structure of lanthanum pentanickel and yet has the surface partially converted into sulfides and oxides. Consequently, a particle system showing optically catalytic activity, having crystal phase of nickel sulfide, nickel oxide, lanthanum sulfide and lanthanum sulfate on the surface of the particles consisting essentially of lanthanum pentanickel is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To impact photocatalytic activity due to visible light, by mixing a small amount of nickel oxide with composite oxide of a rare earth element and an alkalie earth metal element and, after baking the resulting mixture, alternately and repeatedly applying sulfiding treatment and oxidizing treatment to the baked one. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of an alkaline earth metal and a rare earth element compound is baked to form composite oxide of both of them and, after nickel oxide was added to the composition oxide, the obtained composition is again baked to form a powder having nickel dispersed therein. This powder is heated to about 800-1,000 deg.C in a sulfiding gaseous atmosphere containing carbon disulfide and methyl sulfide, etc., as sulfiding agents to by subjected to sulfiding treatment. The formed partial sulfide is heated to about 600 deg.C in the presence oxygen or in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to be converted to oxide. By alternately applying the above-mentioned sulfiding treatment and oxidizing treatment three times, a photocatalyst substance having both of photooxidizing and photoreducing functions is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a hafnium compound having photocatalytic activity excellent in light absorbing capacity and chemical stability, by forming a SO - or SO3 group to the surface of composite oxide of hafnium containing a specific sub stance. CONSTITUTION:Composite oxide of hafnium oxide/alkaline earth metal oxide (strontium oxide or barium oxide) baked along with nickel oxide mixed is heated to about 900 deg.C in an atmosphere of a sulfiding agent weaker than carbon disufide or methyl sulfide to perform sulfiding treatment. Subsequently, threated composite is oxidized at about 700 deg.C in oxygen to obtain a hafnium compound of which the surface was doped with a SO - or SO3 group. This hafnium com pound has improved light absorbing characteristics enlarged from an ultraviolet region to a visible region and high photocatalytic activity and photo-cracking efficiency.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily produce a ferromagnetic carbon material free from transition metals and contg. 100% carbon by depositing an org. substance on a porous material and heat-treating the org. substance at a specified temp. in the presence of halogens. CONSTITUTION:An uncarbonized org. substance used as the starting material is adsorbed on a porous material and heat-treated at 250-800 deg.C, preferably at 400-600 deg.C, in the presence of a halogen generating agent. Although the uncarbonized org. substance of certain kind may be gasified or sublimated when heated, the gasification and sublimation of the org. substance are effectively suppressed by the heat treatment, the substance is efficiently carbonized, and a ferromagnetic carbonized material is produced on the porous material.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To impart high photocatalytic activity, by repeatedly applying sulfurization treatment and oxidation treatment to a composite oxide of tantalum and an alkaline earth metal to obtain a tantalum compound containing SO2 and developing photocatalytic action by visible light. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of alkaline earth metal oxide and tantalum oxide is baked to form composite oxide, and nickel oxide is added to said composite oxide and the resulting composition is again baked to obtain particles of a tantalum compound. Next, said particles are heated to about 800 deg.C in a sulfurizing gaseous atmosphere composed of carbon disulfide or methyl sulfide to obtain partial sulfide which is, in turn, heated to about 700 deg.C in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to be converted to oxide. These sulfurization treatment and oxidation treatment are alternately performed over three cycles to prepare a tantalum compound containing SO2 and developing photocatalytic action by visible light.
