    Abstract: This invention provides a method of smelting aluminum by using a blast furnace. An oxygen gas is introduced into a carbon material packed in a reactor, to burn the same to form a plurality of raceways and a high-temperature reduction region among the raceways. A mixture containing an alumina-containing starting material and a carbon material is then supplied selectively into the high-temperature reduction region while substantially preventing the mixture from contacting the raceways, to reduce the alumina to aluminum.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a reaction product which does not contain molecular oxygen at a high reaction rate by bringing the oxygen permeated through a solid electrolyte substrate and the reaction substrate into reaction with each other with the prescribed laminated film disposed with electrodes on both faces of said substrate as a diaphragm. CONSTITUTION:The laminated film 2 constituted by forming metallic electrode films on both faces of the solid electrolyte substrate and laminating a homogeneous catalyst film on one face thereof is prepd. Two block chambers (a), (b) are formed of such film 12 as the diaphragm. The reaction substrate is supplied into the chamber (a) facing the homogeneous catalyst film and oxygen is supplied into the other chamber (b). A voltage is impressed between said metallic electrode films form a power source 10. The activity of the homogeneous catalyst film is improved by the oxygen permeated through the above-mentioned solid electrolyte substrate and the oxygen is brought into reaction with the reaction substrate. The reaction product which does not contain the molecular oxygen is thus obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst compsn. capable of effectively reducing a Nox which is contained slightly or in a small amt. in exhaust gases at the mild condition of normal pressure by incorporating a prescribed ratio of cubic tungsten carbide and at least one kind of metal or oxide or carbide of a metal into the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:This catalyst compsn. for reduction of the Nox in exhaust gases contains >=30vol.% cubic tungsten carbide and at least one kind of the metal or the oxide or carbide of the metal (excluding the cubic tungsten carbide). The catalyst compsn. for reduction comes into efficient contact with a reaction system of exhaust gases in accordance with the use condition, etc., and can be arbitrary shapes, insofar as the catalyst does not run off outside the system. The catalyst removes the Nox in the exhaust gases and prevents the pollution by the exhaust gases when the catalyst is mounted in the pipelines of exhaust systems of not only automobiles but also traffic organs, internal combustion engines in factories as well boilers in power plants, factories, buildings, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive property and the durability of the film, and obtain the excellent surface hardness by forming the film containing cubic tungsten carbide by the specified composition of the specified film thickness on the surface of the base material of grinding and polishing tools. CONSTITUTION:A film containing cubic tungsten carbide with less residual stress is formed on the surface of the base material 8 by preheating the base material 8 in a vapor phase reaction device 1 provided with a plasma generating means (work coil) 6, and cooling means such as a preheating means and a circulating cooling jacket, generating tungsten carbide by the vapor phase reaction in the thermal plasma 7, and executing the rapid cooling. A coating parts excellent in the adhesive property, the durability and the surface hardness can be obtained by containing 30vol.% or more of cubic tungsten carbide in this formed film, and setting the film thickness in the range of 0.5-100mum to form the film on the surface of grinding or polishing tools.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily control crystal growth direction by decomposing gas of an oxygen-containing metallic compound with light irradiation, forming a thin film-like crystal of metal oxide on a base plate and growing the crystal to direction of light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:A base plate 2 is installed in a chamber 1 and gas of an oxygen- containing metallic compound (e.g. tantalum pentamethoxide gas) is introduced into the chamber 1 together with carrier gas 7. Simultaneously, light 4 from light source 11 is irradiated to the base plate 2 and the gas of oxygen-containing metallic compound is decomposed, then thin film-like crystal of metal oxide (e.g. tantalum pentoxide) is formed on the base plate, thus said crystal is grown to the irradiated direction of the light 4. By said method, the crystal growth direction is able to be controlled to a desired direction by controlling angle of the base plate 2 to the light 4, then various chemical and physical properties of the thin film are able to be controlled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To achieve a higher detection sensitivity, by amplifying the detection output of a specified wavelength of light in flame of a burner applied to by a magnetic field to remove noises at a background part. CONSTITUTION:An AC voltage of a power source 8 is applied to a coil 7 of an electromagnet 2 to modulate the green emission at frame of a burner 1 in the case of a phosphoric compound and the light is passed through a spectroscope 3 to be inputted into a photodetector 4 for detection. The detection signal thereof containing a background is inputted into a lock-in amplifier 5 and the input signal from a detector 4 is detected in phase by a reference signal with the field modulation frequency to be converted into direct current, which is outputted to remove noises at the background part. Thus, the removal of the noises at the background part enables a highly sensitive detection of the concentration of phosphor.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To synthesize Fe-Si-C series super fine particles at high purity by rapidly cooling after reacting silane, methane and iron carbonyl in high frequency heat plasma of ultra high temp. range. CONSTITUTION:The raw material gas composed of silane, methane and iron carbonyl is fed into torch system in the high frequency heat plasma apparatus 1 from upper part of a torch 3 for reaction and reacted in the plasma of argon, etc., at about 4000-10000 deg.C. The generated Fe-Si-C series fine particles are rapidly cooled in the rapid cooling system made of silica-tube, etc., and collected with the inner wall (A) of the torch 3 for reaction and the inner wall (B) of silica-tube in the rapid cooling system. The obtd. super fine particles is useful to the synthesis of catalyst showing high catalytic activity, because of high olefin activity or high CO conversion ratio.
