    Abstract: A multifocal ophthalmic lens is provided including an ophthalmic lens having a base curvature corresponding to a base power; and a diffractive element comprising a plurality of annular zones configured to produce constructive interference in at least four consecutive diffractive orders corresponding a range of vision. The constructive interference produces a near focus, a distance focus corresponding to the base power of the ophthalmic lens, a near-intermediate focus, and a far-intermediate focus, each corresponding to a different one of the four consecutive diffractive orders. The near focus, the near-intermediate focus, and the far-intermediate focus each correspond to a different add power relative to the base power. A first add power corresponding to the far-intermediate focus is less than one half of a third add power corresponding to the near focus; and a second add power corresponding to the near-intermediate focus is greater than one half of the third add power corresponding to the near focus.

    Abstract: Abstract An ophthalmic lens comprises an anterior surface having an anterior surface base curvature and a posterior surface having a posterior surface base curvature. The anterior surface base curvature and the posterior surface base curvature are adapted to provide a base power defining a first focus corresponding to a first focal length and a first spherical aberration corresponding to the first focus. A diffractive structure disposed on one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface is adapted to split light between the first focus corresponding to the first focal length and a second focus corresponding to a second focal length; and provide a second spherical aberration corresponding to the second focus. The second spherical aberration has an opposite sign relative to the first spherical aberration. The first focus is associated with a first intensity peak of an energy profile of the ophthalmic lens, the second focus is associated with a second intensity peak of the energy profile of the ophthalmic lens and the first spherical aberration extends the first intensity peak asymmetrically toward the second intensity peak.
