Abstract: Techniques and devices for acquiring and compressing timelapse video are described. The techiques are adaptive, in that the acquisition frame rate is adapted and captured images are periodically deleted during filming. To implement the method, a user need not know ahead of time how long the source video will be acquired. Regardless of the acquisition time, the resulting video is automatically edited to provide a timelapse clip of a predefined length or of a length within a predefined range.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a camera. While in a first media acquisition mode for the camera the device displays a live preview on the display. While displaying the live preview, the device detects activation of a shutter button. In response to detecting activation of the shutter button, the device groups a plurality of images acquired by the camera in temporal proximity to the activation of the shutter button into a sequence of images. The sequence of images includes: a plurality of images acquired by the camera prior to detecting activation of the shutter button; a representative image that represents the first sequence of images and was acquired by the camera after one or more of the other images in the first sequence of images; and a plurality of images acquired by the camera after acquiring the representative image. Die Techniken sind adaptiv, insofern als das die Erfassungsbildrate angepasst wird und dass erfasste Bilder periodisch während des Filmens gelöscht werden. Um das Verfahren zu implementieren, muss ein Benutzer vorher nicht wissen, wie lange das Quellvideo erfasst werden wird. Ungeachtet der Erfassungszeit wird das resultierende Video editiert, um einen Zeitrafferklipp einer vordefinierten Länge oder einer Länge innerhalb eines vordefinierten Bereichs bereitzustellen.
