    Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for communicating data over control plane in a 5G system. For example, some embodiments are directed to a user equipment (UE). The UE includes processor circuitry and radio front end circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry, a first message for connecting to a 5G network and indicating a capability of the UE relating to Cellular Internet of Things (CIOT). The processor circuitry can be further configured to transmit, using the radio front end circuitry and via a control plane to the 5G network, a second message comprising mobile originated data. The processor circuitry can be further configured to receive, using the radio front end circuitry, a third message from the 5G network.

    Abstract: Techniques, systems, and devices to support user equipment (UE) in an extended discontinuous reception mode are described. A described technique performed by a radio access network (RAN) includes managing a UE that is in an extended discontinuous reception mode and in an inactive state; sending a notification message to an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message comprising buffer support information for a user plane function (UPF) to buffer data; receiving a notification request message from the AMF, the notification request message comprising a request to obtain information regarding reachability of the UE; sending a notification response message to control when the UPF provides downlink data to the RAN for transmission to the UE; performing a connection resume procedure with the UE to cause the UE to switch to a connected state from the inactive state; receiving the downlink data; and transmitting the downlink data to the UE.

    Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system. The UE includes a processor circuitry, and radio front end circuitry coupled to the processor circuitry. The processor circuitry is configured to determine and indicate, to a core network via a radio access network (RAN), one or more cellular internet of things (CIoT) features that are required by the UE and CIoT network behavior expected from the core network to support the one or more CIoT features that are required by the UE. The processor circuitry is configured to select either an enhanced packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC) to establish a wireless connection with the core network, based on a first set of CIoT features supported by the EPC and a second set of CIoT features supported by the 5GC received from the core network.
