Abstract:
Implementations of the subject technology provide for storing a temporary certificate on a mobile device for accessing services in association with a primary number. A device determines that a first subscriber identity module (SIM) card, previously used by the device, is not available for use by the device. The device determines that a second SIM card is available for use by the first device within a predetermined time period after the first SIM card is determined to be not available for use by the device. The device confirms that a communication identifier of the first SIM card is strongly tied to a user account associated with the device. The device stores a temporary certificate that attests to continued ownership of the communication identifier by the device and allows the device to access at least one service in association with the communication identifier.
Abstract:
A system and method are described for establishing two-way push communication between an intermediate or companion device and a mobile device. Mobile devices register to listen for push notifications delivered through a push notification service from a specified set of providers. The presence of the mobile devices is delivered to the push notification service that maps the mobile devices to connections made between their respective companion devices and the push notification service. If the push notification service determines that a mobile device is "online," in response to receiving a push notification for the mobile device, a current network connection over which a companion device is listening for push notifications is identified and the push notification is forwarded to the companion device. The companion device then can deliver the push notification to the mobile device.
Abstract:
Some embodiments relate to a mobile device, such as a smart phone, and associated method for enabling the mobile device to act as a communication proxy for an accessory device, such as a smart watch. The mobile device may be capable of providing proxy communication services for messages received from / provided to the accessory device even when the accessory device has not properly registered for the respective message service.
Abstract:
Aspects of the subject technology provide for secure, privacy-preserving access to electronic conferencing. In one or more implementations, an electronic device may receive a request to join a call with a second device, the request including components of a uniform resource locator (URL). The electronic device may assemble the URL using the components, and join the call using the assembled URL.
Abstract:
Computer-implemented methods, computer-readable media, and computer systems for managing power consumption in mobile devices are described. A mobile computer system executes a first computer application configured to receive data from a server system over a network, and a second computer application configured to periodically search for a connection to the network at a first time interval. In response to executing the second computer application, the mobile computer system determines that a strength of the connection is below a threshold strength. In response to determining that the strength of the connection is below the threshold strength, the mobile computer system executes the first computer application to delay requesting data from the server system until the connection to the network is detected.
Abstract:
Aspects of the subject technology provide for secure, privacy-preserving access to electronic conferencing. In one or more implementations, an electronic device may obtain a definition of a set of services, provide a request for a service-specific alias for the account, and receive the service-specific alias. In one or more implementations, one or more servers may receive a request from a device to contact an account via a service, obtain a stored set of services for the service-specific alias, in response to determining that the service is included in the stored set of services, allow contact with the one or more devices associated with the account, and in response to determining that the service is not included in the stored set of services, deny the request.
Abstract:
A messaging system, in one embodiment, can establish messaging accounts for a plurality of organizations (e.g., businesses) to allow customers or users of the organizations to conduct two-way messaging sessions between a customer and an organization. The messaging system can use a registration portal to allow an organization to set up a business/organization messaging account by providing account information. The account information can then be used to update one or more searchable databases that allow a customer to have multiple entry points into a messaging session with each of the registered businesses in the messaging system. For example, a search through a web browser or a map application can provide search results that contain or otherwise provide access to a selectable messaging option that is presented on a customer's device.
