Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an incoming direction estimation apparatus in which a miniaturization and a cost reduction are possible, reliability and durability are excellent, and no calibration by no skillful technology, etc. are required. SOLUTION: In the incoming direction estimation apparatus, a joint switching means 20 controls the reactance set of varactor diodes 11-16 by control voltage sets CLV1-CLV6 so that an antenna element 7 and antenna elements 1-6 which element coupling may rotate the ambients of the antenna element 7. An array antenna 10 receives a received signal when the antenna element 7 and the antenna elements 1-6 which perform element coupling rotation ambients of the antenna element 7. A frequency shift detection means 40 detects the frequency shift spectrum of the incoming wave based on the received signal received from the antenna element 7 through a booster 30. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lean to improve performance by each repetition of search, without needing a long learning sequence signal, as compared with the conventional ones. SOLUTION: A method includes steps where an adaptive control type controller 20 randomly perturbs a bias voltage vector V (n), using a bias voltage value V m as one component from a specified initial value by means of a random vector R (n) generated by a random number generator, an objective function value J (n) which is an cross correlation coefficient for the bias voltage vector V (n) before perturbation is compared with an objective function value J (n+1), being a cross-correlation coefficient for the bias voltage vector V (n+1) after perturbation; a bias voltage value V m corresponding to the increase of the cross- correction coefficient before and after perturbation is selected and set and then the vector V (n) is randomly perturbed and set from the selected bias voltage of each of variable capacitance diodes 12-1 to 12-6; and this setting is repeated. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform adaptive control so that convergence time is significantly reduced, a main beam is directed to a wanted wave while null is directed to an interference wave with less calculation amount. SOLUTION: An adaptive control type controller 20 halves the range of reactance values which variable reactance elements 12 can take. The correlation factor between a reception signal and a learning sequence signal is calculated when a central value of each range after halving is set. The reactance value of each variable reactance element 12 corresponding to the larger correlation coefficient between two correlation coefficient corresponding to the central values of the ranges after halving is selected as an initial value. Then the range belonging to the selected reactance value is halved, and the correlation coefficient is calculated when the central values of the ranges after halving are set. The reactance value of the variable reactance element 12 corresponding to the larger correlation coefficient between the two correlation coefficient corresponding to the central values of the ranges after halving is selected.
