Techniques are disclosed relating to the secure communication of devices. In one embodiment, a first device is configured to perform a pairing operation with a second device to establish a secure communication link between the first device and the second device. The pairing operation includes receiving firmware from the second device to be executed by the first device during communication over the secure communication link, and in response to a successful verification of the firmware, establishing a shared encryption key to be used by the first and second devices during the communication. In some embodiments, the pairing operation includes receiving a digital signature created from a hash value of the firmware and a public key of the second device, and verifying the firmware by extracting the hash value from the digital signature and comparing the extracted hash value with a hash value of the received firmware.
Abstract:
Embodiments may take the form of devices and methods to help expedite matching biometric data in a validation process. One embodiment, for example, may take the form of a method for biometric validation including receiving a biometric input and retrieving metadata data of a most recently matched template. The method also includes evaluating the metadata and selecting one or more nodes from the most recently matched template for comparison. Additionally, the method includes comparing the selected one or more nodes with the received biometric input and determining if the selected one or more nodes match with the received biometric input. Also, the method includes validating the received biometric input if the selected one or more nodes match with the received biometric input.
Abstract:
An electronic device includes, or is connected to, a biometric sensing device. A non-textual graphical element may be displayed when a biometric image received from the biometric sensing device does not match a reference biometric image. The non-textual graphical element indicates a number of authentication retries remaining for the user. The non-textual graphical element is modified when another biometric image received from the biometric sensing device does not match the reference biometric image. The non-textual graphical element is modified to indicate that a fewer number of authentication retries remain for the user.
Abstract:
This application provides techniques, including circuits and designs, which can receive information with respect to fingerprint images, or portions thereof, and which can be incorporated into devices using fingerprint recognition. This application also provides techniques, including devices which perform fingerprint recognition and methods which can be performed by those devices. In one embodiment, techniques can include providing a fingerprint recognition sensor in which one or more portions of each fingerprint can be collected as they are identified, and those portions can be combined into a unified fingerprint template. In this way, collection and enrollment of fingerprints may be simplified for users.

An electronic device with a display and a biometric sensor is provided which displays a biometric settings interface including a plurality of entries that correspond to respective enrolled sets of biometric information and a biometric enrollment affordance. In response to detecting input using the biometric sensor, and in accordance with a determination that the detected input corresponds to a first set of biometric information, a first entry is highlighted. In response to detecting activation of the biometric enrollment affordance, after detecting the input using the biometric sensor, a process for enrolling biometric information with the biometric sensor is initiated.

An online store can transmit an online account token to an electronic device or to a biometric sensing device after a user successfully enters his or her account password. The electronic device or the biometric sensing device can countersign the online account token when the one or more biometric images match reference biometric images and the account password matches user identifier data stored in the electronic device or in the biometric sensing device. The countersigned online account token can then be transmitted to the online store. The user can then make one or more purchases after the online store receives the countersigned online account token.

A computing device may receive authentication information. Within a time-out period, a fingerprint may also be received. The computing device may assign one or more authentication credentials to the fingerprint based on authentication credentials associated with the received authentication information. In some implementations, the computing device may assign the authentication credentials associated with the received authentication information to the biometric. However, in other implementations, the computing device may assign different authentication credentials to the biometric based on one or more user preferences, defaults, security policies, and/or enterprise policies. In various implementations, the authentication credentials assigned to the biometric may be altered, such as by adding and/or removing one or more authentication credentials. Such alteration may be performed in response to a received user request, changed enterprise policy, changed security policy, fraud alert, and/or other such factor.
