Abstract: In the present invention there are disclosed biologically degradable polyester amides P1 that are prepared from a reaction mixture containing /a1/ a mixture comprising 35 to 95 mole percent of adipic acid or its ester-forming derivative or a mixture thereof, 5 to 65 mole percent of terephthalic acid or its ester-forming derivative or a mixture thereof, and 0 to 5 mole percent of a compound containing a sulfonate group, whereby the sum of the individual mole percentages is 100 mole percent, and /a2/ a mixture comprising /a21/ 99.5 to 0.5 mole percent of dihydroxy compounds being selected from the group comprising alkanediols having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and cycloalkane diols containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms, /a22/ 0.5 to 99.5 mole percent of aminoalkanol having 2 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkanol moiety or amino cycloalkanol containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms in the cycloalkanol moiety, and /a23/ 0 to 50 mole percent of diamino alkane containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the alkane moiety, /a24/ 0 to 50 mole percent of 2,2 -bisoxazoline of the general formula I, wherein Re1 represents a single bond, /CHi2/iq-alkylene group where q = 2, 3 or 4, or a phenylene group, whereby the sum of the individual mole percentages is 100 mole percent, and wherein the molar ratio of /a1/ to /a2/ is selected within the range of 0.4 : 1 to 1.5 : 1, with the proviso that the polyester amide P1 exhibits molecular weight /Min/ within the range of 4000 to 40 000 g/mole, viscosity number ranges within 30 to 350 g/ml (as measured in o-dichlorobenzene/phenol (weight ratio 50/50) at concentration of 0.5 percent by weight of the polyester amide P1 at a temperature of 25 degC) and melting temperature ranges within 50 to 220 degC, and with another proviso that 0 to 5 mole percent, based on molar amount of the component /a1/used, of the compound D having at least three groups capable of ester bond is used in the preparation of the P1 polyester amide. Described are also other biologically degradable polymers and molding thermoplastic materials, further process of their preparation, their use in the manufacture of biologically degradable shaped products, as well as adhesives, foams and starch-containing mixtures.
