    Abstract: A process for the production of polymers of 2-12C alkenes at -50 to 300 degrees C and 0.5-3000 bar in presence of a catalyst system, with the addition of a compound of formula H-M )R (I); where M = B, Al, Ga, In or Tl; R , R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl, or alkaryl or aralkyl with a 1-10C alkyl and a 6-20C aryl group, or 5- to 7-membered cycloalkyl (optionally substituted with 1-10C alkyl); or R + R may form a 4-15C cyclic group. Preferably R and R together form part of a 4-15C bicyclic group; M = boron. The catalyst system contains (A) a metallocene complex and (B) a metallocenium ion-forming compound. A metal compound of formula M )r(R )s(R )t (IV) may also be added; M = alkali or alkaline earth metal, or a Sub-Group III metal, i.e. B, Al, Ga, In or Tl; R = 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl, or alkaryl or aralkyl with 1-10C alkyl and 6-20C aryl groups; R , R = as for R , or also halogen or 1-10C alkoxy; r = 1-3; s, t = 0-2; r + s + t = the valency of M .

    Abstract: Ziegler-Natta type catalyst system (ZNC), containing (a) a titanium-based solid component containing compounds of Ti and magnesium, a halogen, an inorganic oxide support (IOS) and a carboxylate ester as electron donor, (b) an aluminium compound and (c) optionally another electron donor, in which the oxide (IOS) has a pH of 1-6, an average particle diameter of 5-200 microns and an average primary particle diameter of 1-20 mu m, and contains pores or channels with an average diameter of 0.1-20 mu m in amounts of 5-30 vol%. Also claimed is (i) a process for the production of ZNC by interacting components (a), (b) and (c) together at 0-150 degrees C and 1-100 bar; (ii) a process for the production of polymers of 2-20C alk-1-enes by polymerisation of the alkene (preferably propylene) and optionally other comonomers at 20-150 degrees C and 1-100 bar in presence of (ZNC); (iii) polymers of propylene obtained by this process.
