    Abstract: The invention comprises red and orange dyestuffs of the formula and mixtures thereof, wherein A and D each are alkylene, R1 and R3 each are alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl, R2 and R4 each are hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl, or R1 and R2 and/or R3 an R4 together with the nitrogen atom or atoms form a heterocyclic ring or rings, and wherein the perylene nucleus may be substituted. The dyes are made by reacting one mol of a substituted or unsubstituted perylene-3 : 4 : 9 : 10-tetracarboxylic acid or acid derivative or of mixtures thereof with at least 2 mols of one or more compounds of the formula where A and R1 and R2 have the meanings above, at a temperature of between 50 DEG C. and 200 DEG C. The dyestuffs are used in ball-point pen inks.

    Abstract: A stable, indelible ball-point pen paste contains, by weight, 4 to 15% of a pigment of particle size below 1m , 10 to 20% of a copolymer of 70 to 80 parts vinyl chloride and 30 to 20 parts vinyl isobutyl ether having a K-value between 30 and 35, and 65 to 86% of a liquid ester of an aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid or carbonic acid the volatility of which is such that less than 5% evaporates from an open container in 100 hours at 100 DEG C. and normal pressure. Pigments specified are carbon black, anthraquinone dyes, heavy metal complexes of azo dyes and phthalocyanine pigments. Esters specified are those of carbonic, adipic, thiodibutyric and phthalic acids with methanol, ethanol, butanol, 2-ethyl hexanol, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether. Pigments used in specific examples are copper phthalocyanine, carbon black, polychlor copper phthalocyanine, N,N1-dihydro-1,2,21,11-anthraquinone-azine and the manganese lake of the azo dye 1-amino-3 chlor-4 methylbenzene-6-sulphonic acid --> 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid.
