Abstract: 1,151,575. Recovering alkylene carbonates from gas mixtures. BADISCHE ANILIN - & SODA FABRIK, A.G. 21 Sept., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 42117/66. Heading BIL. Alkylene carbonates which have been used to absorb C0 2 and H 2 S from gas stream are recovered from the gas stream by washing with water under pressure, 'the alkylene carbonate being subsequently removed by flashing the effluent with or without air stripping. The temperature of absorption is 20-70‹C and the pressure is preferably 25-100 atmospheres, while the preferred carbonate is propylene carbonate. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, a gas stream at 26 atmospheres enters sorber 2 at 1 and a stream of regenerated propylene carbonate absorbent enters at 3. Effluent stream A is washed with water enterchamber 10 at 15. Used absorbent is depressurized to 10 atmospheres in chamber 4, the effluent being scrubbed in chamber 11 with used water from chamber 10 before recycling as stream E to the sorber 2. The absorbent is further depressurized to 5 atmospheres in chamber 5 and to 1 atmosphere in chamber 6, the effluent streams B and C being washed with water in chambers 12 and 13 with a water stream entering at 16. Before recycling to the sorber 2, the absorbent is finally stripped with an air stream entering at 19, which is also contacted with both water streams in chamber 14 to concentrate them before they are passed by pipe 18 back to flash chamber 5. Gas streams treated by the process of the invention may be further purified by solutions of alkaline-reacting alkali metal salts.

Abstract: 1,132,922. Separating impurities from gas streams. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 16 March, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11482/66. Heading BIL. [Also in Division C5] H 2 S and CO 2 are removed from gaseous mixtures containing them by scrubbing the gas mixture with an alkyloxazolidone, preferably with 3,5-dimethyloxazolidone-2, 3-methyloxazolidone-2, or 3-isopropyloxazolidone-2. The absorption is suitably performed under such conditions as 5-100, preferably 15-50, atmospheres, at temperatures of 10-40‹C., desorption of the solution being achieved by contact with air. Gas mixtures which may be so treated include natural gas, synthesis gas, industrial gases, coke oven gas and water gas.

Abstract: 1,132,882. Separating impurities from gasstreams. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 16 March, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11483/66. Heading B1L. [Also in Division C5] H 2 S and CO 2 are removed from gas mixtures by scrubbing the gas mixtures with a liquid dialkyl ester of a C 4-6 dicarboxylic acid. Absorption is suitably effected at pressures of 3-100 atmospheres and temperatures of 10- 40‹C, and desorption is achieved by partial or complete release of pressure in the presence of a current of air. The preferred ester is dimethyl glutarate. To increase the water solubility of the solvent, a substance such as an N-alkylformamide, an N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone, or a tetra alkylurea may be added. Mixtures which may be so treated include natural gas, synthesis gas, town gas, industrial gas, coke oven gas, and water gas.

Abstract: 734,258. Contacting liquids with gases. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AKT.-GES. Dec. 21, 1953, No. 35451/53. Class 55 (2). A gas-liquid contact column comprises a series of horizontal contact platforms arranged one above the other in a column down which liquid is passing wherein each platform is sub-divided into sector-shaped or annular sections in such a way that imperforate section is followed by a gas permeable section through which a gas is passing upwardly and which is followed in turn by an open section allowing free passage of liquid on to the platform below, if desired a weir being provided at the free edge of the imperforate section to determine the level of liquid on the section and a downwardly projecting extension of the weir depends into liquid on a lower platform. As shown in Fig. 2 which is an expanded drawing of a portion of a column comprising three platforms A, B and C, each platform having sector-shaped imperforate sections a and e, perforate sector-shaped sections b and f and open sector-shaped sections b 1 and f 1 . Weirs c and g are provided in sections band f, downward extensions of the weirs providing a retaining wall d for liquid on the imperforate sections a and e of platform B and depending into liquid on the platform C and forming a gas seal preventing gas by-passing portions of the column. In a modification when a large volume of liquid is fed to the apparatus the weirs c and g are dispensed with, the retaining walls d finishing flush with the surface of the perforate sections b and f. In a further modification the various sections are annular, the liquid flowing from the periphery of the platform towards the middle of the platform on one platform and vice versa on the succeeding platform.
