Abstract: 1,151,575. Recovering alkylene carbonates from gas mixtures. BADISCHE ANILIN - & SODA FABRIK, A.G. 21 Sept., 1966 [22 Sept., 1965], No. 42117/66. Heading BIL. Alkylene carbonates which have been used to absorb C0 2 and H 2 S from gas stream are recovered from the gas stream by washing with water under pressure, 'the alkylene carbonate being subsequently removed by flashing the effluent with or without air stripping. The temperature of absorption is 20-70‹C and the pressure is preferably 25-100 atmospheres, while the preferred carbonate is propylene carbonate. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, a gas stream at 26 atmospheres enters sorber 2 at 1 and a stream of regenerated propylene carbonate absorbent enters at 3. Effluent stream A is washed with water enterchamber 10 at 15. Used absorbent is depressurized to 10 atmospheres in chamber 4, the effluent being scrubbed in chamber 11 with used water from chamber 10 before recycling as stream E to the sorber 2. The absorbent is further depressurized to 5 atmospheres in chamber 5 and to 1 atmosphere in chamber 6, the effluent streams B and C being washed with water in chambers 12 and 13 with a water stream entering at 16. Before recycling to the sorber 2, the absorbent is finally stripped with an air stream entering at 19, which is also contacted with both water streams in chamber 14 to concentrate them before they are passed by pipe 18 back to flash chamber 5. Gas streams treated by the process of the invention may be further purified by solutions of alkaline-reacting alkali metal salts.
