Abstract: In the reactor for the catalytic oxidation of ammonia into nitrogen oxides, which in the direction of flow contains, in this order, a precious-metal gauze catalyst and a heat exchanger, a catalyst for the decomposition of N20 is positioned between the precious-metal gauze catalyst and the heat exchanger. According to said method for the catalytic decomposition of N20 in a gaseous mixture obtained during the production of nitric acid by catalytic oxidation of ammonia, on a catalyst intended for the decomposition of N20, the hot gas mixture obtained as a result of the catalytic oxidation of ammonia is brought into contact with the catalyst used for the decomposition of N20 before being cooled.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of removing nitrogen oxides from a gas flow. The gas flow is guided: (A) through a stage in which the nitrogen oxides, apart from N2O, are absorbed in an absorption agent, or the nitrogen oxides, apart from N2O, are reacted with an absorption agent at a pressure of between 1.5 and 20 bar, and (B) through a stage for reducing the N2O content, preferably using the pressure level prevailing in step (A). The invention further concerns a devi ce for carrying out this method and the use thereof.
