Abstract: Newcolour-stable beta-modification (I) of the dispersion dye of formula has an x-ray diffraction diagram with lines of the following intensities at a diffraction angle of 2 H: strong at 20.2, 22.4, 22.8 and 23.8 degrees; medium at 8.3, 11.2, 25.3, 26.2, 27.5 and 33.5 degrees; weak at 9.1, 13.2, 14.7, 15.4, 16.7, 17.1, 19.3, 20.7, 26.7, 29.0, 29.9, 30.8 and 32.6 degrees. (I) is used for dyeing textiles of synthetic linear polyesters, in loose or wound form. (I) is dispersion stable and, unlike the alpha-modification (Disperse Orange 61), does not tend to flocculate when kept in aq. medium at high termp. for long periods. Depson. of the dye on the fibre does not occur in any phase in the dyeing of wound matl., e.g. spools.

Abstract: Water-insol. dyes and pigments are dispersed by means of PVA with a DP of 50-200 (sic) esp. 40-250 (as staked in the body of the specification), which has been esterified with 0.1-1 mole H2SO4/mole OH gp., and neutralised with (in)org. bases. The dispersant does not tend to reduce or oxidise dyes, esp. azo dyes, even at bath temps. of 130 degrees C. Dispersions of the dyes are stable, even at high temp. (50-80 degrees C) and have long storage life. Mixed fabrics, e.g. polyester/wool, ca be dyed without soiling. The dye prepn. esp. contains is not5 (10-20) wt% polymer, w.r.t. solids, and may be a dispersion, a paste or a solid. The sulphated polyvinyl alcohol is prepd. by is not 60% saponification of polyvinyl acetate, followed by treatment with chlorosulphonic acid or SO3 in a solvent, esp. DMF.

Abstract: Pigment compsn. useful as pigment masterbatches contains (I) 10-90 wt. % finely divided pigment, and (II) 90-10 wt. % water-sol. polystyrene-sulphonate as dispersing agent. Compsn. does not coagulate or sediment in aqs. binders, even in high concns. and remains stable for long periods. The compsn. pref.also contains up to 50 wt. % water (II) is pref. derived from a polystyrene with an average mol. wt. of 300-50,000, contains 0.2-1 sulphonate gp. per styrene monomer unit, and is in the form of a sodium, potassium, ammonium or alkyl-ammonium salt. (I) may be an inorg., quinacridone, quinophthalone, azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, indigo or oxazine pigment, or a pigment derived from perylen-3,4,9,10-tatracarboxylic acid.
