Abstract: Prepn. of 2,4-di-(dialkylamino, diphenylamino and/or cyclic amino)-thiazoles of formula (I) or their acid addn. salts comprises reacting a haloacetamide of formula R COCH2Hal (II) with a thiourea of formula H2NCSR (III) in presence of an (in)organic acid halide in an organic diluent at 0-70 deg C, then treating with mineral acid at 0-70 deg C. R (same or different) = a (a) 1-10C dialkylamino (where the alkyl gps. are opt. interrupted by 1-3 ether O), (b) diphenylamino or (c) a 5- or 6-membered satd. heterocycle, contg. a ring N and opt. a further N or O heteroatom, bonded to the thiazole ring via N; Hal = halo.

Abstract: Diaminothiazoles of formula (I), in free form or the form of their acid addn. salts, are new: R , R = 3-10C dialkylamino, in which the alkyl gps. may have 1-3 ether 0 atoms in the chain; diphenylamino; or a 5-6-membered satd. N-heterocyclic gp., opt. contg. another N atom or an O atom adjacent to the ring N, the ring being attached to the thiazole ring by a N atom. (I) are prepd. by reacting a haloacetamide of formula R -CO-CH2-Hal (II) with a thiourea of formula H2N-CS-R (III) in an inert organic diluent in the presence of an (in)organic acid halide at 0-70 deg C, then treating with a mineral acid at 0-70 deg C. Hal = halogen.
