    Abstract: 1. A vat dye based on a condensed reaction product of monobromofluoranthene which contains not more than 7% of dibromofluoranthene with 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, obtainable by carrying out the condensation of the reaction product to give the carbazole compound at from 50 to 70 degrees C in 83-88% strength sulfuric acid and, after the conversion to the carbazole compound, effecting further bromination to a bromine content of from 20 to 23% by weight.

    Abstract: The medium contains a carrier layer onto which a light-absorbing layer is applied which either consists of a dye of the formula or which contains this dye. In the formula, at least one X is and the other X are hydrogen, -OR , -SR and/or -NO2, A is alkyl which may be substituted, phenyl, benzyl or phenylethyl, or a group in 2, 3, position, n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, the number of -NO2 groups being 2, R , R and R are hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl or phenylalkyl, the phenyl radicals possibly being further substituted, or are a saturated 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring and R is alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or C2/C3-alkylcarboalkoxy. The dyes have an absorption maximum in the range from 600 to 660 nm. The recording medium can be written and read with He-Ne lasers.

    Abstract: Process for the preparation of anthrimides in a one-pot reaction in which a) leuco-1,4-diaminoanthraquinone is oxidised in nitrobenzene to give 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone, b) the diamine obtained is monobenzoylated at 33 to 39 DEG C in the presence of 0.8 to 1.2 % by weight of water and acid-binding agents and c) the 1-amino-4-benzoylamino compound obtained is condensed with an aromatic halogen compound in the presence of copper to give the anthrimide. During the benzoylation, an aminobenzoylaminoanthraquinone is obtained which contains less than 3 % by weight of starting material and of the bis-benzoylamino compound. In the carbazolisation, the anthrimides obtained by the process yield vat dyes which have the same properties as the dyes of the prior art. h
